[img src=" i.imgur.com/vaL38xR.jpg" alt="" style="max-width:100%;" src="https://imgur.com/vaL38xR"] My newest course - Hot Dog Coast - a par 71 , 6918 yard course from the back tees. Inspired by a classic Monterey Peninsula theme this course has a mix of coastal and inland cypress/pine tree-lined holes. Hope you guys give this one a playthrough and enjoy!! Welcome to any and all feedback. Cheers

I'm not sure why but the name Hot Dog Coast just makes me happy lol. Congrats on the publish and welcome to the forums! I'll give this a play later and report back.

I’m the reviewer that marked it not accepted but you aren’t far off. My notes are in the not accepted thread.
I played through 13 or 14 holes and your 1st hole was the best IMO. The right fairway bunker (shown in your 2nd picture) is especially well done.

Ah, disappointing but thanks for the look and review. In retrospect, maybe Monterey peninsula is a bit too specific that was just the overall vibe I was going for was a “spyglass hill” like course with some inland cypress tree and some coastal one. Perhaps I should’ve deleted the city to make it more proper I just felt it was more fun being in there. Also I was purposefully making the back 9 feel a bit more “sparse” in terms of planting then the front. Is this frowned upon??
Funny enough, other reviewers complained about that exact bunker you complimented lol.

Thanks CiB0RG. It’s part of the hot dog series lol. If you wanna see reeeally bad designing you can visit my first couple courses. This course and Hot Dog Club are my first couple attempts at proper courses. Although I still have much to go.

Thanks CiB0RG. It’s part of the hot dog series lol. If you wanna see reeeally bad designing you can visit my first couple courses. This course and Hot Dog Club are my first couple attempts at proper courses. Although I still have much to go. Just got done with my round and I enjoyed it. The course played well You built a very interesting environment that definitely has monterey vibes. I got hints of spyglass on some holes, hints of cypress point on others, maybe spanish bay-ish on some of the lower holes and others were unique holes that has their own character. I didn't mind the city in the background personally. It kind of gave me a reference point to see where I was on the property. It's okay to have different looks but try not to make it so night and day, try to slowly transition from tree lined to open holes so the theme "flows". I'll give my feedback with highlighting the good and then what you could improve on. The Good: I thought the greens played great. They had nice movement but gave very fair chances around the pins. The fairways had some nice subtle undulations that also played well. The planting around the course looked nice. The trees made sense and the clusters of grasses and plants underneath looked good. What could be better? I won't harp on every tiny detail but I made a small list of the most prevalent things. The tee boxes- I'm glad you had flat tee boxes that provided views of the fairway but you made too obvious you just used a square flatten brush and raised it up. I did the same thing on my first few courses, a lot of newer designers do this. Try to find a spot within the natural landscape to use a softer flatten brush so the tee positions look more realistic. The bunkers- The position of the bunkers were good and made sense for the strategy but the sculpting on them needs work. I liked that you tried to make your bunkers "pop" with your sculpting but you definitely need to smooth them out. I recommend watching b101's bunker tutorial on youtube to get you on the right path. Ideally you want to try to have smooth sculpting inside the bunkers that flows with their natural shape and you want to have a high side that gives them visibility in sight lines from the golfers perspective. Consistency- Try to be more consistent with scale and style throughout. I noticed most of your greens were a good size but some randomly were tiny and then, I think it was hole 12, was just massive. Also consistency with the setting. A lot of the areas looked nice with trees and planting but you left a lot of the background hills bare which was visible around the course. You don't have to plant those background areas like you would plant around the playing areas but I would recommend at least adding some trees or brush in those bare areas to give a more immersive and complete look to the environment. It looks like you have plenty of skill with using the tools and being creative with it. Going forward try to implement some of the technical things I talked about and keep seeking out feedback from other designers. It's a friendly community and there's lots of people willing to help. I'm seeing loads of potential here! Looking forward to what you come out with next. Cheers!

Funny enough, other reviewers complained about that exact bunker you complimented lol. your course reminds me a lot of my first course (also not accepted). Most first courses aren’t accepted because, even if the hole designs work and the course plays well, there is a learning curve in using the design tools to really make it play and look great. I’m tagging WhatAboutAmeobi here to give this a playthrough on his stream next week. He (and the designers in his chat) can provide a good amount of visual feedback so you can see a bit better what I was talking about. I would stream it myself but he’s got those smooth Canadian tones that make everything sound better.

Thanks CiB0RG. There’s so many incredible courses and designers out here, it’s a bit intimidating lol. But I’d love to stick around and be a part of the community. Thanks for the great advice. And I have no qualms with not being accepted. Just wanna know what to do better for next course.

Just got a chance to play it and I’ll echo what the gents above said. It’s honestly not far off. The environment was good albeit a bit sparse in spots. I get the flow you were going for, but it still felt just a touch empty.
I thought the greens were solid as far as playability. The slopes made sense and did what they looked like they would. A few were dead flat right around the hole, which makes for really easy putting. But a bit of movement, especially when there’s other flowing areas, makes more sense. Like ciborg said, 12 (? The par 3) had a giant green for a 179 yd shot and then an itsy bitsy one on 13 when you’re asking me to hit a 250yd shot on a par 5. Just think abt what kind of shot you’re asking the player to hit and size your greens accordingly.
Strategy wise there were several holes that gave me options and made me think about what shot to hit (18 immediately comes to mind). Others were blatantly obvious that I had to hit what was suggested (in most cases 3W). Try to give folks options with their shots.
Overall, like I said, this was pretty solid and really not far off at all. Tidy up just a few bits here and there and you’ve got a solid course. Keep at it and welcome to the community
