Time to start my WIP Days 1-5: As expected, I was allocated to the Alternates so I'm chasing one of the 4 Wild Card slots. For some perverse reason I was keen to do a flat course. After some research on the first day I soon found my inspiration photos. I do a lot of my brainstorming using my Galaxy Note and soon had my rough plot and hole layout sketched out. It's taken a couple of days to build my karst mountain landscape; to test my river and rice field approach; and to decide on the right theme and background. Most of my macro plot landscaping is done and a lot of the peripheral planting. This is so much easier with the copy-paste method than the old way. However, scarily I'm already over 40% on the object meter and I've yet to lay down a hole! Here is also a little early teaser shot.

Day 6: I've at last got my river winding its way across the floodplain. I've placed all 18 holes roughly into place and I've started work on the 1st. I said I was going for flat!

Day 9: From radio TGCT ...
"Goooooooood morning, Vietnam. Hey, this is not a test. This is rock and roll. Time to rock it from the Delta to the T.G.C.
Newsflash - Some Aussie nutjob is building a golf course in North Vietnam in the rice fields. No bunkers, no waterfalls, no rocks - mostly rice fields for hazards. Only two holes down so far and one of those already has one of those fancy Biarritz greens. That sounds more like a skate park than a golf course.
The weather out there today is hot and shitty with continued hot and shitty in the afternoon. Tomorrow a chance of continued crappy with a pissy weather front coming down from the north. Basically, it's hotter than a snake's ass in a wagon rut."

Day 17: Old Chinese Man: "You in big trouble."
Me: "What? Who are you?"
Old Chinese Man: "I'm Short Round"
Me: What? From Temple of Doom? Aren't you like 90 now?
Short Round: I'm 95 and I retire to Vietnam. I call you Indy.
Me: Why?
Short Round: You Indy sh!t. Ha Ha. Very funny. Very funny.
Me: What?
Short Round: How many holes you done?
Me: Five playable holes now and we're only just over 20% of the time. I'm very happy with it so far ... but it's not your traditional course.
Short Round: I see that. But can't you hear the screaming?
Me: What?
Short Round: The object meter. Can't you hear it? It is screaming loud. It screaming more than Willie at Pankot Palace.Me: I know it's already over 50% but hopefully it will last.
Short Round: You crazy. I'm very little but you in big trouble.
Me: I've already rearranged some holes so I have less floodplain to plant.
Short Round: You must save some more. I keep telling you, you listen to me more, you design longer.
Me: Hopefully it will hold out. I've still got some tricks up my sleeve.
Short Round: You show people a picture. I will play when you finished.
Me: I look forward to it. It will be a Long Round with Short Round!
Short Round: Very funny. Very funny. Now I go back to my PC to play my mine cart ride in VR!
Me: OK. Here is that screenshot of the par 3 5th hole. There is still lots to do in the background.

Day 28 of 76: We are over one-third of the way through and I'm still progressing steadily. I have 11 playable holes and I know where the remaining 7 are going, so I'm comfortable with the time left. However, there is still a lot of planting to do and the object meter has broken through the 60% barrier, so I am concerned I'm going to run out of meter. Part of the course heads away from the floodplain into the karst hills for some jungle lined holes. Here is a shot from the 11th green with a view through to the 7th tee and 6th green.

Day 64 of now 91: It's been over a month since I last reported from up here in Northern Vietnam. Real life has been getting in the way but I'm pleased to report I finally have 18 playable holes. We also have most of the fairly simple clubhouse complex in place too. We hired a local golfer as the Pro. His name is Hung Lak Don Kee. When he gets his big club out, it's a sight to behold! I'm thankful for the deadline extension now as I have 4 weeks to finish all the "planting". And Short Round is still happy because the plant meter is at 71%. Here is an overview shot. Still a lot to do but it's fair to say this one is going to be a bit different!

Day 71 of 91: The pressure is on to finish a Vietnam course following Dylan's unfortunate PC demise. With under three weeks to go, I am relentlessly filling my plot with rice fields and the like. It's as tedious as it sounds but I am excited for how the finished vision will hopefully look. The object meter has crept past 80%, so at the moment it is a race to see whether the meter or the clock will run out before I finish. Below is an updated progress shot of the plot, similar to previous ones in the thread.

Day 84 of 91 (plus a bit): There is a little over a week to go now till the deadline. The object meter is steadily creeping towards the limit and is now over 91%. Only 180 more rice fields to go ... Here is a screenshot including the Hole 1 overhead to give a taste of what I'm going for.

Practically less than 48 hours to go for me. I'm getting nervous that I won't quite finish to the level I want. The object meter at 97% is not helping those nerves. I'm sick of "planting" rice fields and I still have about 60 to go. This one is going to leave me with 'Nam flashbacks but something will be published before the deadline.

Day 91 of 91: From Radio TGCT .... "Goooooood Morning Vietnam (and VctryLnSprts). It's gonna be hot and wet! That's nice if you're with a lady, but it ain't no good if you're in the jungle. Newsflash - The Aussie nutjob has opened his golf course, "Bac Son Valley, Vietnam". Go and play a round in the rice fields ... that's what she said! Watch out for those jungle holes. If you go in that sh!t, it's like golfing with Ray Charles. It sure looks good but with all that planting, hopefully it's not a lagfest"

I really enjoyed playing this, all of the hidden water was tricky and i ended up in it about 5 times. Overall, very solid course.
