Just finished an enjoyable round from the tips, playing to pin 2. Here’s my take on the course:
Firstly, one of the best clubhouses I’ve seen! Loved driving off of it, made sure to scope it out on my approach to 18 too, really had that hotel/resort feel to it and I’d definitely have been trudging in with my tail between my legs for a cold one at the end of my round!
I really liked the environment you created. It was cohesive, slightly fantastical (by no means a criticism) and I think you utilised it well with the native waste areas between holes. I would add that I felt maybe some of the could/ should have been OB, as I made a couple of pars (particularly on the par 5s) when I was basically in jail and shouldn’t really have had a shot to recover, but that’s just how the game is.
The tee boxes grew on me. Wasn’t sure I loved the sleepers - apart from on the first hole where I felt they fitted perfectly - but before long I was a fan, especially the little walkway between 3 and 4.
I felt the course was fairly easy - I’m not the best player by any means but I shot par, even with a quad on 11! I had a bit of luck at times but I also missed some chances, so in all I think it was very fair, but be prepared to see some low scores!
I’m not sure I cared for back to back par 5s on the front 9 - I don’t feel like there was anything in particular calling out for them to be together, but with that being said I missed 3 scoring opportunities in a row by parring 5, 6 and 7.
Using bunkers for paths was an interesting touch. I actually ended up in one but that’s on me, I hit a TERRIBLE shot and was lucky to make par.
I think the routing could be tweaked - I think both drivable par 4s play in the same direction? And both 8 and 11 were similar par 3s (same direction and similar green concepts, although different yardages), although I should have birdied 8 (3 putted) and hit 2 in the water on 11 for my quad.
All in all, a very enjoyable round and a great course. I’ll certainly be back here!
