Welcome to South Africa, and to Red Spires Golf Resort. Red Spires hasn’t always looked like this… until about five years ago this was a deserted island. Situated just off the west coast of the mainland, this was a remote hidden paradise. That was until Nelson de Bok moved in. He had a vision to create a golf resort to take advantage of the upsurge of interest in golf in this part of the world. Nelson, an engineer by trade, is an innovator, and wanted a blend of contemporary design amidst natural surroundings. His brief was for us to integrate the golf into the main course hub at the clubhouse and with easy access from state-of-the-art resort accommodation. Working in collaboration we delivered Red Spires Golf Resort. This is a great place to be whether you love your golf or not. But if you do love your golf you have to visit if only to experience the thrill of driving off from the clubhouse itself. 'Clubhouse' doesn’t quite do this construction justice. From the moment you arrive, you will be amazed at the quality of this building. Housing a pro-shop, tennis and swimming facilities, an ocean-facing driving range, a range of cafes and restaurants, you will be forgiven for forgetting you have a round of golf to play! When you're ready for your round you will make your way out from the central atrium to the first tee on the third floor balcony. Take it all in before launching your first drive off into the course. Your enjoyment won't end there. Red Spires is set amongst the red desert rock but the course itself is lush and green. Drink in the environment as you make your way over the bridge to the first fairway. Playing early or late in the day shows the Red Spires rock formations in their best light… literally. The course itself runs to 7033 yards from the back tees with 4 par 3s and 4 par 5s. There is plenty variety on your journey around Red Spires. Be aware though… many holes have water close by and between holes the desert landscape is rocky and littered with craters and waste areas. Make use though of some generous fairways and large greens and it'll be a breeze! There are some great looking holes throughout, but none better than the 18th, which is waiting there to tempt the overzealous golfer. Enjoy your visit to Red Spires!

Well, now that I've read the description, I feel like an idiot for guessing this might be Cabo during my play through 🤣
Really nice course though man. You're continuing to step up your game with each course. Love to see it.

Finally got a chance to give it a go and it didn’t disappoint. Seeing it on stream isn’t as good as seeing it in person. Wow. The environment you created along with the solid gold holes made this a very enjoyable round. Some favorable winds and bounces led to a -4 on pin 3 but it didn’t feel “easy”. Great job, will definitely be back for another round or 6.

Haha… Thanks for the kind comments… really enjoyed watching your round back.. some nice shots and a great total.. the wind needs to get up to make it a bit more of a challenge!… for info that wasn’t a split fairway I think that was the 13th…. Also on the tee boxes I noticed the grass coming through the boards as I was building and I figured well this is exactly what would happen…. I hear they are on the look out for some some attentive staff!! Anyway thanks for the play through - it’s much appreciated

Really enjoyed this Rich. Real departure from your last one and, personally, I think it’s a step up in pretty much every respect. Really nice work mate.

Loved it! Had a good round. I feel like 15 is very controversial in the sense that, some folks on here are either going to love it or hate it. I chose to go down the right fairway and rolled into the rough. I made bogey. Can't make up my mind if I like that hole or agree with the design choice, but the design of the course as a whole is just brilliant. Unique and beautiful. Congrats.

Can't make up my mind if I like that hole or agree with the design choice, but the design of the course as a whole is just brilliant. Unique and beautiful. Congrats. Glad you enjoyed... thanks for the kind comments and thanks for posting!... Yes, I thought I’d mix it up a bit with 15. So there’s a central hazard off the tee, but that’s an easy carry if you go driver. However, a typical 280-300 yard drive will leave you blind to the green which is right down by the water. However, if you do have a long driver and/or a favourable wind, you can carry either side of the rocky spine - the left side giving you a good view of the green if you make it far enough down the hill... the right side, will give you a view across to the green but only if you make it to the flat area just short of the water... so yeah, not for everyone, but entirely intended based on the land formations. I figured the green is pretty big, so not a hard target to hit... I’ve played plenty of holes where if you stand still next to your ball then you’re blind... but a brief wander down to the left or right, or to the top of the hill etc, then you can get a view of where you need to go, which you keep in mind as you return to your ball. I’m all for realism here, and you don’t need to go full scout cam, but in real golf, you’d not stand there transfixed next to your ball, you’d be jumping up to see if you could see, or jogging over to the other side of the fairway to get a view... I love the odd hole like that, arriving over the rise to see where you’ve ended up!

This was such a cool course. I just found this by scrolling through the top rated in the game and had to find the thread for it. I'm all for controversial holes like 15, it adds that "fun factor" that a lot of people shy away from when designing. If that hole was into the wind then you can't take that long ball on and it plays well that way anyways. Planting was unique and I loved how the colors of it blended together with the lighting and textures. And the clubhouse speaks for itself, it got my attention right away that this was gonna be a good experience.
I design far more than I play/critique courses so maybe I shouldn't be talking, but I find myself never finishing rounds because the courses just bore me lol. You my man get a 5 star and favorite from me all day long for this one!

Hey thanks for the post… I know how time consuming it can be to bother to find the thread etc… so appreciate you taking the time!… …and really pleased with the feedback it’s getting… I think it’s a good indicator of a decent course when you still enjoy a round there - the time you’ve spent on it designing you can soon get bored with a course, but I’m still enjoying a few holes playing this one!… Yeah definitely - the 15th… I think generally I’ll become more adventurous with my hole design… I’m similar - spend most time designing so I have to be fairly targeted in choosing courses to play - either that or playing beginners courses so you can help them out Anyway appreciate it!… point me at some of your courses if you like and I’ll pay back the compliment!..
