My entry is coming together... I've been working on an American style links course (not that I've played any other than British ones . I've built a plot similar to Chambers Bay as in this years actual course. I've taken elements from that course design but largely they are my own holes within the location whilst still taking inspiration. Now for my question... Being a links I have virtually no trees on the actual course currently and it does play tough (at least for me), but I fear the top players will eat up a classic links without the added protection of trees... I'm already using Boreal (very wrongly with no trees), but tried last night setting them to max... made for an interesting course! What do people think, could a course with no trees be tough enough? I'm not ready to release a beta... When I do I could potentially produce two and I suspect I'll keep it treeless until closer to submission at least... I think I'd prefer to keep the look and feel in line with chambers but I could be swayed

What do people think, could a course with no trees be tough enough? I'd say "No", but I could be totally wrong without having it played anytime before.

I'm going to make it as tough as I can without and then see if I need to make some changes later on It might be that some strategic trees rather than going tree crazy would do the job

It can be hard without trees. It won't give you as many options...but it can absolutely be hard without trees.

Cheers, yeah I agree... Don't expect my fairways or greens to be particularly flat ?. I have a banana shaped fairway with an adverse camber on it... Things like that can be tough but not every hole will have those. As you say it will inevitably remove a little of the variety. I could probably keep fairly close to my chosen theme with a more heavily tree'd part of the course a little more inland... Of course this wouldn't be true to the Chambers Bay course but I'm not by any means going for a replication. I do have the railway though which of course is the most important part ?
