Thought this might be a fun topic for weekend discussion. Bunkers on practice range: love them, hate them? Use them? Why? Always a bit of a head scratcher for me.

Used to pick the range as a summer job, and having them on the range would be a nightmare... and then there's this range at Top of the Rock...

I don't understand why there are downrange bunkers on practice ranges, but the local range by me has a short game area that has practice sand traps to use. I am a big fan of being able to work on bunker shots when practicing, and not many places around here seem to offer that.
EDIT: here's an on-point Tweet related to this topic:

I prefer a range that has a bunker or 2 to practice. Seems silly not to...you work all other aspects of your game, why not bunker shots?

Practicing on the course is better than practicing on the range. So why not make the range the course?

I worked for Bass Pro for a bit and got to visit Big Cedar/Top of the Rock and hit some balls with the owner. Awesome range and cool experience!

I was referring to down range on the practice tee. Short game practice areas should have practice bunkers. I would be ok with a bunker on the practice tee itself for folks to practice full swing shots out of the bunker but feel they’re kind of pointless on the range itself 🤔.

One of the facilities I used to play at had white artificial turf "bunkers" around elevated greens. Great for aiming practice without the annoyance of having to collect the balls out of sand

I think it's ok to have a couple of bunkers on the shorter targets as if playing to a par 3. It has the tendency to frame the hole as if playing a real hole. But seriously that range above is next level! I have never seen anything like that at any range in Oz. Just a shame there's no 100ft waterfall and a lighthouse in the middle then it would fit right in.

There is water out there though and for the guys who mentioned waterfall there is one of those too! The view off to the right down to table rock lake is amazing, easily one of the prettiest views I’ve ever seen.
