That was tough news to hear for fans of the sport who wanted to virtually walk the hallowed grounds of Augusta National and compete for a Green Jacket. But golf video game fans can enjoy a Masters-style experience through The Golf Club, an unlicensed golf game developed by HB Studios. Polygon has the story. Using the game's course creator tool, dedicated gamer Craig LeVasseur created his own version of Augusta National, calling it "Magnolia National." The course, available for all to play for free, is a pretty faithful recreation of Augusta National. While there's no Jim Nantz on the call or the iconic Masters theme music, Magnolia National does feature Augusta's famous holes and surroundings, including Amen Corner. Check out the video above and some images in the gallery below for a closer look. You can find Magnolia National in The Golf Club today by selecting "All Courses" and then searching for "Magnolia." The course is available on all platforms: PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One. And if you're an Xbox fan on the fence about picking up The Golf Club, the game is now available for just $11.55 through the Xbox Spring Sale, but that deal ends tomorrow, so you'll need to act quickly. The real world Masters tournament began on Thursday and the championship round is tomorrow, April 12.

Very cool! Thanks for posting!
Although... part of me wants to say "Shhhhhhhh!". Last thing I need is a cease and desist from those grumps at ANGC! The name should be protection enough, but it still makes me just a slight bit nervous.

yea I was over at ea's site a few days ago and posted. why are you all still buying this game it has the same old course's it had 12yrs ago. if you know where to hit every shot the first yr then you know where to hit 12yrs later boring. they said they get to play some of the best licenced course's in the world. and I said but you all played them for 12yrs now that's getting boring. and your still paying for downloads B.S . nothing to pay at the golf club yet but when it happens that's ok. and ea's pga game is going to have maybe 36 course's hmmmm to golf club's over 4,000 .

To a certain degree the difference is quality (EA) vs quantity (HBS) courses. Not to take away anything from the great Magnolia on TGC but those instances are few and far between on real courses. I know watching The Masters on tv this weekend it brought out how much I miss playing laser perfect copies of the same courses the pros are playing along with spectators, tv towers, and the roars of the crowd.
I never get tired of playing the best courses in the world because knwning how to play them is only part of the battle. Exectutuion of your shots is the other. TGC is fun but it has its own brand of physics and shot choice that is clearly a game HBS-style and is often a distant departure from reality. Again, it is real fun because you are constantly challenged and the ebb and flow of the leaderboards here are proof positive that complete mastery is almost unattainable.
I look forward to see how the gameplay is in EA's nextgen golf game because, for me anyway, that is what will keep me playing regardless of the # of courses. Think this, many people are memvers of local country clubs and play pretty much the same course year after year and don't get bored...golf is much more than just course variety...it's honing your abilities, it's social, and great individual and/or tournament competitions.
There is room for both as well as Perfect Golf and Hot Shots too!

Generally your statement is true.
But if I had to chose between the two games, I'd go for the stuff that TGC is offering me.
ANYTIME!
NO DOUBT!

Uhhh, EA quality? Their quality control is worst in video gaming history. And as for which game has more real, sim-like physics, IMO HB's TGC is way more sim than any EA version of golf.
And it was such a pleasure to finally play the Masters greens in a more accurate way. EA's version the greens were way too slow and too forgiving.
This years real life Masters the greens are very soft from all the rain and mild spring temps. I have seen them way more firm and faster. They are some of the easiest to play on that I think I have ever seen them. And I can remember back to the early 1970's.

MLT, the quality tag I used was specifically tied to the recreation of real life courses, nothing more in this instance. Dont want this to become a versus thread...we all have our opinions and nobody is going to change anyones. We will all buy/not buy what we choose. Back on topic, congrats to Craig for having his amazing talent featured. Well deserved!

well in the golf club we don't get ignored like they do at EA and if you played there tw game's you know this is true . when it comes out around 10 months down the road they will start ignoring you. and this is true.

A tour as good as this one wouldn't be possible playing an EA game simply because of the number of courses. That is a fact.
