This course was designed to play a little easier than many of my previous designs. It is set to just below medium in firmness (so theres some bounce and roll, but not a lot) and medium speeds. Most greens are large, and some contain a ridge that splits the green into two tiers, on this version, most of the cups are on the lower tiers, but not all. Greens I feel are very realistic, no 'cartoon' slopes or pin placements. They are big, and receptive to all club lengths with the approach shots. Putting should be tricky, but not terribly difficult if you are within 15-20 ft of the hole.
The course plays short, but most holes have very constricted fairways right near the landing zone for your driver. The riskier players should have shorter approach shots into the green, while the more conservative player will find it easy to find the fairway, but a little more challenging to sit it close on approach. I wanted most tee shots to support driver, but also put the small question of doubt as to if that is the best option. High winds make this choice critical.
I brought back my rock work, which I avoided completely in my last design (Mount Yeti Royal), and I forgot how much I like to sculpt the rocks and cliffs. I have tried to incorporate rocks and cliffs that look natural and that are easy on the eyes. Planting was kept to a minimum where I could, so this should play nicely on all of the consoles/platforms.
I increased the time of day to late-morning/early afternoon so that shadows weren't too big of an impact. I like how this really brought out the color palette of the links theme. I'm personally getting a bit tired/weary of courses that are set to 'twilight' conditions. Sure, the lighting looks cool, but can make it tough to see things/breaks with those longer/harsher shadows (I'm certainly guilty of this in my older courses). Hopefully you like the late morning lighting on this track.
I built this on the same plot (the original) as the 2nd team built course, but, aside from the first hole, it is a completely different course in regards to look, feel, and beauty. After the 1st, this design goes in a completely different direction and looks nothing like the team build course. Once I created that plot, and the first hole, I couldn't live with myself if I didn't finish it off with my own flair.
Enjoy!
