Is it acceptable to have a blind uphill par 3 where only the flagstick is visible?
I'm trying to clarify when a deliberate blind shot is considered good design and when it isn't.

I'm actually a big fan of this type of hole where the green surface is hidden. Just make sure the pins are really visible

As long as the hole is well framed so you know where the boundaries of the hole is, I think they're fine. I'd avoid overdoing blind shots too much on one course.

My latest project has a hole that lets you see the front half of the green but the two back pins appear 20y to the right of the green and in the bunkers. They are very much on the green but you can’t tell that from the tee.

If you can see the flag, I’d consider it semi-blind not totally blind. With the flag being visible, there’s at least a definitive target off of which the brain can get some degree of depth perception. Total blindness = Can’t see sh%$!

Perfectly acceptable, executed well. (4th on my BobBeta221 is going for the 'pin rising from the bunker look from a couple of it's tees). Even IRL, I like that shot.
My peeve on this type of hole is when there is an extremely severe dropoff (some is fine) or other trouble behind the green that isn't easy to spot. If 'too long' costs a stroke, nice to be forwewarned.

Yeag agreed. You shouldn't hide danger where it can never be seen, that's unfair.
