Does anyone else prefer the old ratings for TGC courses? Would always look for courses and new courses to play via TGC's course rating system. With the new like system you can't guarantee how good a course is and could miss great courses, especially new ones, as no one has played or liked them yet.
Any views on the new system of rating appreciated

It's kind of a no win situation. The reviews were a great idea but not sustainable as a staff conducted venture and underutilized as a member driven option.
It was also becoming a point of contention for many members due to the subjectivity of the ratings. Inevitably, many people rate courses they score well on higher than ones where they score poorly. This skews the data and makes member reviews unreliable. There was also a feeling that TGCT staff ratings were biased. At the end of the day, reviews just end up being more of a problem than a benefit.
So, "likes" are easier to do for the members and easier to implement and track for the admin. And they can be manipulated and biased but so can reviews.
It's just better that TGCT get out of the review business altogether.

We are looking at implementing a filter for "Hot New Courses" or something similar that will filter courses submitted in the past 30 days and rank those by likes. That will help newer courses get identified. We're still discussing the best ways to implement that.
