So I started a typical links course, but really struggling with the looks of it. It just looks so bland and boring, when in use green heavy rough texture it seems to dark and the 3 lighter textures just don’t seem to go yet on other courses I see they seem to work. Any suggestions on creating a links course would be appreciated

Have a look at Turnstone golf links... a low sun and the burnt out textures...
See what you think... might give you some ideas!

Yeah I’ve seen it, what heavy rough texture did you use?

I tried going with green textures myself but rewerted to No.4 heavy rough and No.5 fairways yesterday and a low sun instead. Just looks better.

I personally like the #5 textures for links courses better than the deeper greens. I feel it gives good depth. I also think putting some random humps and bumps with some of the more dispersed landscape flatten tools and then smoothing them over creates good results- this is enhanced when you change the attitude of the lighting. I also think the default bushes on the highland setting are kinda crappy, and that scrubby pines and large bushes make much better elements. You can also use some of the grasses on page 4 to add texture.
