I'm having the worst time figuring out tempo. Recently switched from pro to master swing difficulty, trying to get past Q school. Went to swing calibration, that was a waste of time. MOST of the time, red fasts-which I understand if I can figure out how to play that is a hack. However, I'll try to "slow it down" to what I feel is normal, and it's a slow. Worst of all is the pitch shots, almost always slow unless I just hammer that stick back up real fast...in that case, of course, it's a fast lol. Definitely can't find anywhere near perfect on the pitch shots.
Any tips? I know different things work for different people, and pro was real hard for me at first too and then one day the tempo timing just clicked. Is the easy answer to just keep playing more and I'll get the hang of it? I don't ever think I'll be someone who can shoot -15 in a round, but I just want to enjoy the actual gameplay of the game and be challenged. I'm definitely challenged now, but I'm not having any fun...

Not sure if you are PC or PlayStation or what. But being on PlayStation with a controller One thing that really helped me with Tempo is actually just watching my thumb when swinging. I always assumed my backswing and downswing were going the same speed but they weren't even close when I actually watched my thumb. Just go to the range and swing just looking at your controller and try to get it so your thumb is moving back then forward at the same speed. Then once you find the sweet spot try and repeat and then just keep repeating until its kind of ingrained. Then calibrate. I still struggle with it and if I hit a few red fasts in a row I will stop and take a bunch of practice swings to get the tempo down again. I also did a lot of 1-2-3 counting when I first moved into Masters like time So Like 1-2 are the back swing and then on 3 you should be into your downswing. I forget whos youtube video I watch on that tip but it helped alot. But with everything those things won't fix it if you don't actually practice it. Like I would spend 10-15 mins at the range doing that stuff all threw my bag before I fired up a round.
But those two things seems to help me alot. I'm not a pro and am only in CC-J but once I started doing both of those I went from like +15 or so around to now I can be at Even + or - a few strokes.

I am on PC, but I'll definitely try your advice. I did my first 2 Q school rounds today and finished +6 +2 (basically playing everything way to the right to account for the red fast.). The +2 is by far the best I've ever done in a round on Master. I quit while I was ahead there, and figured I'd try to do some practice before completing rounds 3 and 4 later this week. Thanks!

One other suggestion I woukd give is if your tempo is still a work in progress dial back the power % a bit. You can still hit a driver 295 at 90-95 % and the accuracy will be much better. A miss is a miss but won't be nearly as bad. I find my besr rounds are when I dial things back a bit. Obviously need tonoick your battles here depending on the length of the holes.

I have noticed this in the past, and actually got pretty good at it on pro difficulty. Need to practice this a bit as well, thanks!

Some days I find my thumb just doesn't work the way it should. If I find that is happening I just exit and focus on design.

I don't ever think I'll be someone who can shoot -15 in a round, but I just want to enjoy the actual gameplay of the game and be challenged. I'm definitely challenged now, but I'm not having any fun... Just red fast your drives so you can play from the fairway. Unfortunately if you want to score well you will have to do it unless you can be consistent with perfects and grey fasts on drives. Then on approach shots you have to find your tempo. You want perfects for the most part but grey fasts will be ok as well. I knocked off 10-15 shots off per round( was 80-85 when I first got my card) just doing something very simple. Take practice swings until you find that good tempo and then take your approach shot. My tempo is a whole lot better when I take practice swings prior to my actual shot. I will occasionally have that bad tempo day and red fast some approach shots and then have to get the long putt or pitch/ chip off of the green but for the most part I’m better with the tempo now and my scores have improved. My bad days are 72-74 now and usually that is a result of bad putting or just greens that I’m not comfortable with with all of the bends and reds close to the hole. That close putt with the right to left breaker will bite me at times. Also, find out the green speed of the current tournament and then go to the Victory Lane course that is all par 3’s and set the green speed and play 9 holes to get the feel of that particular green speed that is being for the tournament that you a currently in.
