Glad to have finally finished this one as it's been an absolute grind. A few months ago I decided it would be great to have the composite layout used for the President's Cup at Royal Melbourne in the game for everyone to enjoy. It took much longer than I expected but I hope I did it justice anyway and plenty of players can get some good use out of it for their matchplay tournaments, etc.
Some quick info about Royal Melbourne for those who don't know:
- The Club was founded in 1891 and currently the West course is No.1 in Australia and No.5 in the world.
- The West course was designed by Alister MacKenzie in 1926 while the East was designed and completed by Alex Russell in 1931.
- The composite layout used for the President's Cup includes 12 holes from the West course and 6 from the East.
- Royal Melbourne has hosted 3 President's Cups (1998 won by the Internationals, 2011 won by the US and most recently in December, 2019 which was again won by the US).
**********************
The composite layout is exactly the same as the one used in 2019 and I have tried my best to match every pin as per each day it was used in the tournament. I may have got some wrong, but for the most part, it should play exactly as per the tournament. Thanks to @energ1zer, who provided images and course maps from when he attended the tournament, I was also able to match the crowds and stands, etc pretty accurately as well.
Like many old sandbelt courses throughout Melbourne, it will play quite short due to it's age and tight routing however I don't expect it will be too easy. The greens are as hard and fast as they should be and there are plenty of pins where you'll need to learn where not to land. There's also quite a few holes where taking a 3W off the tee would be the safest option.
Anyway, I put this together to get you in the mood .......
As always, I definitely need to thank b101 who checked over the course to catch some of my errors and also a big thanks to @energ1zer who did the same and also helped out with all the info mentioned above. Really appreciated the help fellas.
