I'm finding rapid much, much better. Have zero momentum in daily games, personally. My rapid rating is consistently climbing yet my daily is steadily dropping.

Rapid is a different game... the quicker it is, the less time to analyze situations and look for best plays

Rapid is a different game... the quicker it is, the less time to analyze situations and look for best plays I agree, but also find daily to be similar as usually most of the time is used up. Classical is my favourite but you can't really do that online. |

I was taught by my father when I was around 10 I would say. Really loved playing my Dad. I got to where I could beat him and started reading books on it and got pretty good. But of course young boys are easily distracted and I started to get more into golf and other sports. Then of course girls and other activities lol. Have always love the game though. I have two boys 12 and 7 and the 12 year old I taught around 10 or so and he took to it at first but it died off. I recently got him back into it after seeing the movie you guys saw and he actually beat me for the first time. He is gifted but I have a hard time getting him to focus on one thing. He tends to get bored then move on to the next thing. I keep telling him you can be good any many things but only great at one. I have not tried to teach the youngest yet but I will. I have a board of course and I own the xbox game but it is not very good online. Never been into online play for chess though. Kinda look at it like poker online. Do not really trust it and it is just not the same as playing live.
It is truly is the best game ever made. Can teach you a lot about yourself and others. Close second would be golf of course.
Good movie to watch if you got kids and want them to get into chess is searching for Bobby Fisher.

Oldest son got me again. We are 2\2 now . It's fun to watch my youngest ask why Dad lost his Queen and was so mad.

Chess is a great game but it can be all consuming. I started too late but reached a pretty good level. I think it's a great game to teach to kids, just as long as they don't get obsessed with it - they really should be outside running about!
