1. Round one, i was so focused and made maybe two small errors that i recovered from. Pitching in a 3 to go -4 was a particular. Probably my best round on the tour so far.
2 round two, probably the worst I've played so far. Can't really eexplain it. Hit a few bad shots then try i g to chase birdies hit it everywhere u can't afford to.
3.the best in the world. 4.i know Augusta well so i was hoping do really well, but i missed the cut i think. Round 2 was so tough tho there may be hope.
5. What can I take from this week. That you can't slack off in this game, I must have averaged a minute a shot round 1 really patient, but i couldn't sustain it and it hurts

Hi Brad. Let's get straight to the point, what happened on the ninth?
My tee shot landed literally 1 inch into the rough after a questionable contact off the tee, leaving me a poor lie from which I didn't quite make the green. I was left probably the hardest shot I have ever had to play in this game. A n 18 yard pitch to a flag on a small shelf which was 7 feet above me, so I had to be totally accurate with it. A 200 yard shot would have been a lot easier! I decided to play about a 40% pitch without altering the loft, trying not to spin it back to my feet. I completely over hit it to the top tier of the green. Now I knew that I just had to get it to the top of the slope so the ball would trickle down to the hole side, again I played it too hard and putted it off the green! I then tried to play a flop shot which resulted in the ball coming back to my feet. Now having 22 yards to the cup, thinking that this shot was impossible I was considering pitching the ball to the side of the green to try and get up and in from there. I decided to play a chip with an 8 iron, which barely made it up the slope leaving me an 8 foot putt. I of course missed that and carded a not so pretty snowman. Hole nine is a difficult hole but I normally play it well, usually carding either birdie or par. Yikes! too bad. You played the back nine in 30 after that, so you have to be quite pleased with your finish?
Yeah, those things can happen. You just have to accept that you made a mistake/mistakes and move on. After holing out my second shot on the fifth hole, I was thinking this might be a decent week for me. Then to find myself 1 under with 6 holes to play I was left feeling pretty numb. So the fact that I managed to shoot 65 from there, I at least managed to salvage some pride. Here is the hole out on 5 Can you recover from this?
I'll give it my best shot but to be honest, with this field I am just trying to get a top 25 now and score as many points as I can. I absolutely love this course but don't seem to score all that well here. Good Luck.
Thank you.

So you finished round one, how do you think you played?
Very solid. I ended up shooting a personal best and that was even AFTER an unfortunate bogey. Any highlights from the front nine?
After a disappointing par on the first, I played pretty well. The highlight of the front nine was my birdie the par 3, #6. During practice I always either ended up way past the hole on the right or missed it left and rolled back to the front of the green. I actually hit a nice shot that barely cleared the hill and I left with a sliding 18 footer up hill for birdie. Draining that really helped the confidence. Your back nine started with your only bogey of the round, what happened and how did you do afterwards?
Made a perfect tee shot and decided to pin-seek which didn't work out. Missed getting up onto the green by about a foot. It happens and I have played the second shot many times. I tried a flop shot but I put too much spin on it, but I managed to hop over the cup on the way to the pin and then even glanced off the pin on the way back. I think that stopped it from rolling back to my feet and it ended up on the edge of the green. I missed the chip. I actually ended up playing a nice second shot on #11 and made another slider coming up for a birdie. That really amped me up but missed an easy putt on #12. Missed another green barely on my second shot into the par 5 #15 and managed to birdie. The shot of the round was the tee on the par 3 #16. A little long, a little right, caught the hill and it fed back down to about 2 feet from the hole. So you ended up carding a 61 (-11) do you consider yourself in contention?
Honestly winning the Masters has never entered my mind. There are so many great golfers out there and I'm just not up to their elite status. I was lucky enough to get an invite having shot the best four rounds of my life 2 weeks earlier. Right now I'm entirely focused on my next round and making the cut. Magnolia is a course that can quickly turn my -11 into a +2 the next round and all this talk of "winning" becomes moot. Well good luck with your next round. Will you talk to us then?
I guess that depends on whether I shoot another -11 or a +2 now won't it? (He gives a wry smile and walks off).

So how did round 2 go? Lets start with the front nine, anything that stood out?
Started with a chip in for birdie on one and played the best front nine for these pins ever. -6 at the turn!
And then what happened on the back nine?
On #10 I clobbered my approach shot over the green about 22-23 yards. Had a tough downhill lie in heavy rough and only managed to chuck it out to about 15 feet. I made an incredible par putt. Pared #11, Birdied #12 and #13. At this point I was -8 through 13....
And then?
I think I started looking at the scoreboard. I realized if I could shoot 3 or 4 under in the final 5 holes I could be top of the leader board. On #14 I tried to play a lofted shot and ended up picking the wrong club for the winds. Ended up barely making it on to the green and a long way away. 3 putted there for a bogey. On #15, I shot past the hole on my second shot, made a really poor flop shot approach and missed the putt for birdie. On #16 I regrouped and hit a beautiful shot 6 feet to the left of the pin. The putt i attempted ended up lipping the edge and i was even further away for my next. Bogey.
At this point i'm -6 devastated and humbled at the lost opportunities. I played #17 and #18 incredibly safe to preserve my score.
So you stand currently at -17 for two rounds. Do you think you still have a shot of winning?
As I said before, winning has not really entered my mind. I wanted to play well and today I didn't. I got complacent, cocke and Magnolia slapped me upside the head. I won't let that happen again. If I can shoot -10 or better for each of the next two rounds I think i have a shot at top 5-10. I would be okay with that and it is definitely within my capability. Whether I do it or not, that is another story. Right now I'm going to tend to my wounds with some nice Crown Royal XR and some munchies.

Jack Nickalus scored a hole in one in the par 3 conteste today at the Masters. It was something to behold. In an interview before hand he was asked if he had any 'magic' left, to which he replied, "How about a hole-in-one." Magic.

Matt, you look really pumped, tell us what happened out there. Oh, I had a miserable Thursday (70) yesterday, and I thought it would be the first cut I've missed all year. But I really lit up the front 9 shooting 6 birdies in the first 7 holes, and that gave me the glimmer of hope I needed. I knew I needed a monster round to make the top 50, and I drained a crazy uphill putt to keep my momentum going.
How were your nerves down the last few holes? It was tough work for sure, I know I needed something out of the par-5 15th to keep it all together. I was faced with quite a headwind and I wasn't sure to risk going for the green over the water. I channelled my inner Tin Cup and beasted it to 12 feet. I let out a big cheer when I made the really tricky downhiller for eagle, then it was just a matter of not bogeying the last few holes. Managed to escape from the sand on 16 with a par, and finished with a great 62 (-10).
Do you think that will be good enough to get to the weekend? I was one of the last out today, and it's really tight at the cutline. But I think I made it. So excited for the weekend!

Round 1 - 67 (-5) Round 2 - 65 (-7)
Longtime no see, Fred...welcome back to the Press Tent! How does it feel to be a part of The Masters?I am so honored to be here. So many great golfers, the fans, the press, and the accomodations and the course are in top shape. Was that nerves we saw on the front 9 of your first round? You better believe it, started off with a bogey and a par on the easy par 5, then I goofed on #6 with another bogey. Sitting +2 and my hopes of making the cut were already worrysome. Somehow I gathered myself and got back to even after 9 and then I really caught fire. A beautiful approach on 10 for birdie, a putt off the green on 12 for another and a great putt on 13 for eagle...I swear it paused just like Tiger's putt before it went in! onedrive.live.com/redir?resid=d2482cfff35d7817!281&authkey=!AOPiX9Lm8HKBhps&ithint=video%2cmp4Link if video doesnt workThings got a little up and down after that, no?Yeah, I was off the green on the par 5 15th over water and tried a short flop that hit the pin and ran back to my feet and almost in the water. Ended up with a bogey, followed by birdie, bogey, birdie. That's Augusta for you, never think you are on a roll because the course can bite back the minute you get cocky. Round 2 you scored a solid 65 (-7) but what was that shot on hole 1?Totally scalfed it right and into the deep woods. I didn't think I'd get out so I tried to punch it low and hard and flew through the fairway into the deep thatch on the other side. I ended up with a 88 yard shot for par and was actually quite pleased to walk away with only a bogey. The rest of the round I managed to avoid trouble and I think I've done just enough to play this weekend. You are 11 shots off the lead, likely the jacket is out of reach, any goals?Already completed and exceeded. A real bonus would be to place high enough to move back into contention for the WGC Matchplay event. I'm sitting at 71 WGR and need to push up to 64...other than that I'm just happy to walk about these hallowed grounds and enjoy the scenery. Who knows, maybe I can follow what Jack Nicklaus did and pull off a big holeout for the fans this weekend. We'll see! Good luck Freddy and thanks for stopping by!

I see you finished round three...you look a little dazed. Care to describe what happened out there?
Magnolia happened. I started off #1 with a 4 foot putt for par that didn't break at all like I thought it should. Got that stroke back on #2 but lost another and got it back. Went back n forth hitting some nice shots but my putting seemed just slightly off. And then #7 happened...
Hole #7? What happened there?
I played a great 2nd shot and was about 12 feet under the hole, slight break. I putted the ball and it grazed the edge of the hole and it looked like that it picked up a little speed as it did. It was just enough to breach the crest a couple feet beyond the hole and it started slowly rolling. I swear it was like 20-30 seconds of roll before it found its way into the front bunker.
I tried to play a 'par-saving' bunker shot, got to the top of the ridge and it spun just enough to do another 20 second roll back to my feet. I tell you that is the most sickening feeling waiting for a ball to stop rolling. I played my fourth well beyond the pin and had about 25 feet back to the pin, but I was already snake bit. I got scared that the next putt would go past the hole and into the bunker and I played it short, then missed the next putt for a triple bogey.
Wow that is some bad luck there. How did the rest of the round go?
I managed to get back to Even Par by #13. Pared #14. Birdied #15. Nearly had a hole-in-one on #16. Lipped the hole on my second shot into #17 and birdied there and pared the last. I shot a rather disappointing 69 (-3).
Two bogeys and a triple. Still you should be happy to finish under par.
Don't get me wrong, anytime you can finish under par at Magnolia it is a good day. Had I made that putt for birdie on #7 I could have been -7 or better, still would-haves and could-haves ... it is what it is. It is golf.
How do you think this effects your chances....
*cue eye roll and a little cough*
Yeah.. well, any final thoughts?
Magnolia is a tough and unforgiving course. A centimeter can mean the difference between a par and a triple as I found out, but that is what makes the course so great. You have to be on your game at all times and today I obviously was not. Still I made the cut and hopefully I can notch a top 30 finish and raise my WGR a bit. Just a couple weeks ago I was 96th and was outside looking in. Today I shot a bad round, but at least I got the opportunity to shoot it. I'll finish up tomorrow and move on. We still have a long season ahead of us.
Thanks for your time and good luck tomorrow.
