This is pretty much the layout of my course for the us open. Haven't done much planting or beautifying at all. The course is firm/fast so some shots may roll alot. I'll add some pictures after work. This is also my first ever course so any feedback would be welcomed. You can find it listed as Beta Old York G&CC
Sorry about the teebox on 4 I forgot to put it in.

Like what I see so far! Will give this a go when I get the chance (have to keep an eye on the competition ) At first I thought you'd left in the auto gen fairways which people would slate you for, but I think you've just gone for straight edges which is cool Knowing you are a top player and you gave me a good review from a strategic point of view I'm expecting a good test of golf Also, gotta love a shared green!

Thanks pyates. most of the stuff in the pictures is added after i released the beta playtest. The fairways are most definitely not auto generated i was going for more of an old school golf course look. The course is tough but very fair and i have shot rounds ranging +3 to -9 almost every hole can be a birdie or a bogey. I love hole 4 cause it can be anywhere from an eagle to a double bogey from the front tees.

Looks really good! Glad to see the rural theme come to life with new objects...many designers just focus on the newer themes. I think this has more of a U.S. Open feel than most because of the tight tree-lined fairways. Got to give it a try!

Played it last night... I was right this was quite brutal. I kinda decided to fall into all the traps, I.e I tried to just hit driver off every tee and see where that got me. Turns out if you miss the fairway here you are screwed on your second so good job. The odd hole I wasn't too sure whether the green was too patchy, I.e tiny dashes of yellow on the grid suggesting it might need to be a little smoother to play fair (yellow not a problem but when the slopes change several times in a single cell it might be too much). 14th I hit a lovely long driver dead centre only to be faced with the tree in my line having not real option for the green. Both these things were probably on the latter holes which are in progress . Overall this should be a contender imo, looks good, has that U.S. open feel as mellowswe has said and fits the tough brief ... Hope you get second :-p

Tried it and liked the layout. Like the pictures it really has a US Open feel.
Some of the greens were a little too extreme for my taste. I like it on the shorter holes but 16 was rough, hitting 3 wood and trying to hit a small flat area. Ended up rolling back a long way to the right and from there I hit my putter as hard as it would go and got halfway to the hole. 4-putt on that one.
Also some of the trees blocking the view from the tee felt a little unnecessary...especially on straight holes like 18. I liked having to work the ball around some of the doglegs though, like 1 and 10.
Really liked the look of no 11...very pretty hole. Nice to have large greens when the conditions are firm, it adds another dimension to the game when you have to think about the slope of the green on approach.
Needs some more smoothing and planting but a very nice course and it is certainly tough enough for a US Open. Finished at -4 and pretty pleased with that.

Made A final beta before I officially publish this course. About 99% of the planting and sculpting are done. Going to play test it over the next few weeks before the deadline. Feedback is always welcomed. Its called Beta Old York Golf Club Final.
