Welcome to Hollyberry Hill Golf Club! (published under Hollyberry Hill GC - 18H)
What started as a 6 hole design for Design League 4, morphed into a full 18 hole course which is up and rollin’!
A few things to note, the Design Contest was for 6 coastal holes, and with at least one point on the course being 100yds away from the water, routing was not being considered.
So that’s how the first 6 holes came to be…and why this course has a unique routing. It’s set in late fall, as the Holiday season is kicking into gear.
The course starts at the top of the hill, the highest point on the course. You start off fairly unusually with a long par 3 down the hill overlooking the water. The terrain is a little more rugged and rocky along the hill. You will wind down the hill to the split fairway par 5, 3rd hole. Then move along the coast for the next 4 holes, 4 through 7. You will notice an island across the water during this stretch of holes. That was there for a visual in the initial 6 holes. Then I thought, heeeey, would that be cool to fit a few holes over there? Why not? So you will head across the bridge over to holes 8 through 12. After heading back over the bridge, you will start winding back towards the hill on holes 13, 14, 15 and 16. Hole 17 is an uphill par 5 that will be a tester into the wind. And finally 18 end it dramatically with a downhill tee shot, then an approach back up the hill towards the clubhouse.
From my initial post:
Location: Somewhere a little warmer then here
Season: Mid to Late November-ish
Suggested Winds: South, South West
Greens: 175, but you can crank up to 187 if you wish
Tees: Red/Green 7160/7417
