Hi all!
I just released my second course - Emerald Ranch Golf Club. It's my second course and I must say I'm pretty pleased and proud of how it turned out. I would absolutely love some feedback from you if you can find the time during these Holiday times to critique the course in terms of hole design, general appearance and playability (green sizes, bunkers, fairways, etc). The course is roughly six weeks in the works and now it's time to release it into the wild. The course was created on the PS4.
The course
A farmland course, I've tried to model it as a smaller, Family-owned golf club. Measuring in at 6206 m / 6786 y from the black tees, the course has a wide array of styles, featuring big playable waste areas on the front nine before changing character to a more classic parkland layout on the back nine. I wanted to try and strengthen that feeling by lots of tall grass growing on either side of the holes where possible.
History
Based on an idea from the Tahitian mango farmer magnate Dutch van der Linde, the course was designed and constructed around the Schrute and Emerald Ranch farms in the 1970's and started out as a nine-hole course. A par-71 course, it's starts off gently with a driveable par-4 where a birdie chance is available for all, if the wind decides to play ball.
Course guide:
Par: 71
6206 metres/6786 yards (black tees)
Hole 1 - Par 4
286 metres / 312 yards
”A gentle opening hole, this driveable par-4 has a playable waste area to the left hugging a wide fairway. The heart-shaped green offers little in the way of trouble, but there is a bunker guarding it front right. A tree may come into play on the left hand side if you tee shot isn’t up to scratch”.
Hole 2 - Par 3
181 m / 199 y
”A Biarritz style green awaits you on our first par-3. The third pin set has the flag placed in the Biarritz, for the other three flags, make sure you land on the correct part of the green. Left, into the waste area, is usually a good miss.
Hole 3 - Par 5
490 m / 535 y
”A spectacular hole running alongside Schrute Farms, this short but twisty par four is full of risk and rewards. 233 m / 254y is needed to carry the waste area over to the fairway proper. With a tailwind, a small pond comes into play, while the trees on the right hand side is always in play. Aim for the windmill and land it in the fairway, and you might be able to reach in two. The generous green is guarded by bunkers but with a big opening down the middle you can run the ball in and use the slopes to your advantage. The entire farm area is OB”.
Hole 4 - Par 5
534 m / 583 y
”Depending on the wind, this hole can be easily reached in two, or a brute that you’ll struggle to reach in three. Light rough cuts through the fairway at the halfway point, so either make sure you can carry it, or play it safe and choose a shorter club off the tee and stick it in the wide landing area before the rough. Gorse and tall grass on both sides of the fairway as you make your way up to this elevated green”
Hole 5 - Par 4
293 m / 320 y
”Another short, slightly up hill, driveable par-4. Water long right and left of the green, should you choose to let the Big Dog eat. The left hand side of the green slopes towards the water. Missing right into the waste area will leave a tricky pitch shot onto the dance floor”.
Hole 6 - Par 3
133 m / 145 y
”Time to give your irons some attention. OB in the forest on the right as you try to hit your landing spot on a small green surrounded by three bunkers. Still, a good chance for a birdie here”
Hole 7 - Par 4
416 m / 454 y
”A big landing area awaits you but a headwind could cause a headache. Other than that, grip it and rip it! The green has a false front to the right and will happily spit any ball back into the bunker below”.
Hole 8 - Par 4
357 m / 390 y
”A short par four, there’s a cluster of bunkers littering the landing area. A pond to the right may be in play for big hitters. The green is flat up front, but slopes to the back the deeper in you get. Be sure to plan where you want to land your approach shot as to not leave yourself a difficult putt. Take a moment to view the stone walls surrounding this scenic green.
Hole 9 - Par 3
209 m / 228 y
”The last hole on the front 9 - a long par 3 into a kidney shaped green. Missing right or left into the sand might leave a tough splash shot to get back on for par. Once on the dancefloor, putting should be easy. OB on the right”
Hole 10 - Par 5
558 m / 610 y
”The longest hole on the course can be an absolute beast in the headwind. Three pot bunkers clog up the landing area. Four more awaits you further ahead, while a tricky and undulating green is guarded by another three. Use the slopes on the green to cozy the ball close on your approach shot”.
Hole 11 - Par 4
404 m - 441 y
” A tricky landing area awaits you as you tee off next to the lake. Appleseed Timber Co. are felling trees on the left hand side, an area marked as Ground under Repair. The back half of the green falls off dramatically, use this to your advantage if the pin is at the back. The right hand side of the green slopes aggressively towards two bunkers.”
Hole 12 - Par 3
129 m / 141 y
”No. 12 is a short par 3 over water onto a narrow green. The angle from which you play your tee shot from, makes it more forgiving however. Another great chance at birdie”.
Hole 13 - Par 5
501 m / 548 y
”Two small pot bunkers clog up the landing area on this narrow fairway. Two birch trees have grown up in the middle of the fairway and the green is guarded by the ”Dog’s Nipples” bunkers. Both sides of the fairway are covered with bushes and tall grass. Once on the dance floor however, putting should be easy on a fairly flat green”.
Hole 14 - Par 4
441 m / 491 y
”The wind will play a huge factor on this long, bunker-less par four. OB behind the fence to the left hand side as you try and hit a narrow fairway. The green has three tiers and the day 4 pin is tucked all the way up to the right. A par is might gan you a stroke on the field here”.
Hole 15 - Par 4
442 m - 492 y
”The Road Hole has an access road to the yacht club snaking through the fairway, well short of the landing area. Two bunkers take up space on either side of the fairway and the left hand side is still OB. A decent tee shot should leave you a mid iron into this tight green.”
Hole 16 - Par 4
349 m / 381 y
”A beautiful tee shot next to the Emerald Ranch, a creek guards the right hand side of the narrow fairway as you try to make your way up to this elevated green, which is easy to hit but also very easy to fall off of”.
Hole 17 - Par 4
364 m / 398 y
”Here’s a last chance to get creative, a wide landing area on the fairway should leave you a wedge down to this sunken green, Use the slopes to your advantage, either as a back stop, or, if the pin is on the far left, to guide your approach shot close”
Hole 18 - Par 3
111 m - 121 y
”A short par 3, onto a narrow green, surrounded by bunkers. Check the wind, pick your club and take dead aim for the flag!”
