For those who didn't make the field perhaps a "fantasy pick'em" contest once the groups are set and once the bracket is filled. I have some ideas that would make following this interesting and fun, for others not in the contest. I'll DM you my ideas.

I've been re-reading through last years World Cup thread and am wondering if the judging rubric will be the same this year? Asking since I'm interested and not because I'm in the field. What are the judging criteria and weighted elements? Of course, this could be of benefit for those building the courses too! Good fortune to all the entries and alternates and looking forward to another batch of fantastic courses to play! (All done with the exclamation points....after this one!) :-)

Happy to be first alternate though!! Not started yet (was waiting to see if I scraped in). I will try & tune in for the draw as it's great fun - good luck to all 32 finalists. Personally, I’d get rolling on one and prepare as if you are going to get in — especially as 1st alternate. While I’d love to see no DNFs, if 2020 has taught us anything, it’s that fate sometimes loves to give a bird emoji to the best-laid plans. Assuming future organizers want to carry in the DWGR formula for future comps, alternates who finish but do not get in, will receive the same points as those not advancing out of group stage. We’ll also make sure to spotlight the alternates during contest playthrus.

DAM mayday_golf83 , absolutely nothing but respect for the amount of work and thought you put into the criteria for this! Just a little note as a guy who has been around for a few years since TGC1, and as the TGCTours staff member "in charge" of the official design contests (I say that with no 'humblebrag' because I will fully admit that I advise with a panel of about 20 contributing designers from all 'cliques' in order to make decisions for a season): The World Cup of Design will always give off a vibe that it's the elite of the elite, by its very nature, and although we see great designers on the outside looking in, and still other renowned designers not registered at all, it's just a "snapshot in time." It's meant to be extremely hard to win, and although there will always be differences of opinions on how we got there (of which I'm guilty of), at the end of the day we get a very deserving winner and 32 phenomenal courses for the community. The design community is growing, and just as we see with the Rookie Design Contest, being "new" doesn't mean you can't build great courses, and that's a GOOD thing! Huge credit to guys like Crazycanuck1985 and b101 for providing resources to new designers and current designers to make them better, faster. So if you didn't get in, that doesn't mean you'll never get in, it just means that this "snapshot in time" didn't include you. But YOU have the power to change that for the future by getting involved in everything you can to move up the WGDR for future contests. Remember that committee I was talking about earlier? Well, we are always looking at fresh ideas to reach more and more designers that want to be involved. Stay tuned throughout the year as we announce more ways to 'compete' even if you don't make the initial field. Likewise, not all contests are based on rankings to get in, some are first come, first served. There will be lots of chances to get noticed! And finally, another shout-out to b101 , reebdoog , PithyDoctorG , mayday_golf83 , CiB0RG , toddfather , Trayys , and probably others I have accidentally forgotten, as they constantly refine the tournament judging process so the contests get better and better. Despite what might be written about the 'elites' or 'cliques' from the people that get pissed off and take their ball and go home, these are great guys that care very much about the design community and wanting everybody to get a fair shake in their development. Again, there will always be subjective disagreements based on personal preference/opinion, but that doesn't mean the foundation that the judges work off of isn't as well thought out as possible. Huge kudos to the hours these guys and others put in to this hobby! So, the TLDR: we love you, have fun, don't be a b!tch (#longliveHallstatt)

Totally agree with everything on Eric’s post. The World Cup should be about the best against the best and that means those without a significant body of previous high-class work need to bide our time to get in to the field. Difficult to argue with the field not being representative of the best around! Really pleased Jeremy’s thread mentioned that the alternates will get exposure on course play throughs. Given the people on that list, I’m sure we’ll see some great stuff just from them.
I think the side contest is a great idea and speaking personally, it will give me something to focus on in the next month or so.
Really looking forward to seeing what the field come up with so soon after the DT contest and seeing the work of a few people I’ve not come across before as someone relatively new to the game and community. Good luck all.

It was said during the Dream Team matchup show that I didn't really have any beef with anyone. That's lame. So I've decided to have a beef* with everyone in this contest before it even starts. b101 - Overrated. Dude sandbags to win the rookie comp, then hasn't done much since. #1 seed? Upset city. SindreRev - Yeah, he can make a golf hole look pretty. But can he make a course interesting? gamesdecent - Won't playtest or plant, great qualities for a high seed. mattf27 - Will be too busy ranting about some guy named Jerry to have clear judgement on which of the 12 golf courses he will submit to the contest. Will submit the worst one and not win. Again. reebdoog - Does this guy design still? csugolfer60 - Will create greens with a new shade worse than a red slope. Will almost certainly build another parkland tournament course. PithyDoctorG - Won a contest a while back. You remember the course that won? Yeah, me neither. @tannerbronson - Guaranteed publish error. 195 yard par 6? Come on, Dylan. Crazycanuck1985 - Winner. VctryLnSprts- Hallstatt repeat? Almost a guarantee . ryanmcconnell - Contest course will have floating water tables and everyone on the platinum tour will despise it. Second best Dream Team captain. grovey31 - One hit wonder. sharky21 - Who? mattyfromcanada - After a solid publish, will think he's amazing and submit a complete turd. toddfather - I heard he designs while trying to fly a plane. We can tell. nitro22 - Another one hit wonder. jwfickett - I remember this guy! He made some great courses....in TGC1. theclv24 - On HB's watch list, so I imagine his World Cup course will be pulled almost immediately for some reason. agrainger12 - Shows promise, but will crack under the pressure of the big names. Q - Great guy in the Canuck discord, one of my Youtube mods and nice fella....but for 3 months, you suck. digitalbunny - Will try something wild...and it won't work at all. CiB0RG - This guy designs? Huh. Violinguy69 - Stick to music. tpetro - Will hit puberty at some point during the contest, completely blinding his judgement ChrizZcE - Arctic Fury wannabe. @babybull - Cape Ari was great, now do another course without a waterfall. @bearforlife73 - Similar to Dylan, publish error almost a certainty. jivesinator - Will try something weird like a course with no fairways. Nobody will like it. B.Smooth13 - Real wildcard here. Except this wildcard sucks. ddixjr509 - Created some real fan favorites apparently. Never played em. rod81simo - Another old school designer that hasn't figured out the new designer yet. mjhamilton113 - The final seed. Will he shock the world? Maybe with how bad his course is. mayday_golf83 - what you've done with the rankings is.....maybe the nerdiest thing I've ever seen. * if you actually take this seriously then I actually have a beef with you.

Looks like ol grandpa Crazycanuck1985 forgot to take his meds again. Can someone go take him and his course designs back to the nursing home?
