In an effort to appeal to a younger, “urban” audience, the International Olympic Committee announced on Monday the official inclusion of breakdancing, an art form that saw its pop-culture pinnacle in the 1970s and 80s.
Known as “breaking” among its pioneers and in IOC parlance, the competition will make its Olympic debut as an official sport at the 2024 Summer Games in Paris.
IOC president Thomas Bach addressed the decision after the executive board's meeting in Geneva on Monday.
“We have had a clear priority, and this was to introduce sports which are particularly popular among the younger generations,” Bach told reporters. “And also to take into account the urbanization of sport.”
Parkour was also considered for the Paris games. It did not make the cut.

Shooting a gun at a target is similarly skill based and doesn't exactly require a crazy good physique and it's already in the Olympics.
Golf was argued against (and is commonly railed on) for not being a physical enough sport for it's inclusion.
No sense in gatekeeping which events can be there, it's not like it has any deep purpose other than being entertaining and allowing countries to waste billions of dollars hosting it.
I'd compare breakdancing's inclusion to ice skating to be honest, both are complex dancing moves that blend acrobatics with precise dancing forms and movements. One is just significantly more elegant than the other

Time for ballroom dancing and tap dancing and hold the boat...Irish clog dancing. I myself saw the world championship pole dancing in Las Vegas...I would pay to go see that competition.

Tap dancing is so freaking exhausting yeah, just wonder how many countries can even compete in some of those categories. I've been an advocate for chess in the olympics because why not

It could be fairly argued that break dancing reached its pop culture pinnacle on April 7, 2004 with the release of South Park episode 115 "You Got F'd in the A". Easily a top 5 all time south park episode for me.
I would rather see things like billiards, darts, chess where there is a clear competitive outcome rather than a judge's score, but I am not the target market for this. On a positive note I guess I would be more entertained watching break dancing than some guys run a 1600 meter race

Chess, Snooker and Pool would all be decent additions in my opinion.
