This is my 2nd course designed, 1st approved. Blackridge Hills GC is a challenging par 70 Championship golf course with tough fast Greens, firm fairways, and plenty of bunkers. The first course had poor bunkering so I put 135 on this one. Improved on my mistakes from the first course. From the Black tees the course plays to 7,380 yds, the Green tees are 6,690, and the White tees are for a fun 3,925 yd short course. Inspired by A.W. Tillinghast set in the woods of northern New Jersey, Rustic theme. Specifically took inspiration from some of his best courses, Somerset Hills, Quaker Ridge, Ridgewood, Bethpage Black, and a little bit of Pine Valley too.
The stretch of holes from 6-14 make or break your round on this course, par would be a good score. Holes 6, 8, 11, and 13 are the four par 3's, 9 and 10 may be the toughest par 4's on the course and 7 and 14 are the two long true three shot par 5's. Both of the par 5's are classic Tilly the Terror featuring a Great Hazard that can be seen from both holes that consists of 22 bunkers with mounds and tall grass in between. Both require a long 150+yard carry and without a good tee shot you're looking at making bogey or possibly worse. The four par 3's from the back tees play to 188 yds, 153 yds, 249 yds, and 168 yds over water. Tillinghast felt that a courses' collection of par 3's was indicative of it's qualities so I would love some feedback on those holes. Hole 12 is probably my favorite. A short almost 90° dogleg left that features a double Green complex inspired by the eighth hole at Pine Valley.
Holes 1-4 aren't too difficult, meant to ease you into the round although there is plenty of risk reward. Hole 5 is a risk reward heavy tee shot with a window through the trees to cut off the dogleg potentially bringing the woods into play, but certainly gets a wedge in your hands if you get through or hitting into a big fairway featuring 7 bunkers with a longer shot into a tough big Green. Holes 15-17 go around a lake bringing water into play and 17 also features OB left. Hole 18 has the most severe sloping fairway and the Green features three tiers making for a challenging finishing hole, but birdie is certainly there to be made with two good shots.
There are birdies to be made throughout the course, but accuracy is at a premium. Every shot counts and hopefully each shot makes you think. Driver isn't always the smartest club off the tee and most of the Greens feature quadrants and severe slopes. This course is for the true fans of the history of architecture. I think it could pretty easily pass as an A.W. Tillinghast classic. Let me know what you think.
Any help with pictures for a PS4 player would be greatly appreciated.
