The Watchtower:
Reached by boat only this links style golf course is surrounded on 3 sides by rugged often treacherous terrain before the cliff faces rise up way above the uneven fairways giving a spectacular backdrop to many of the holes. Smaller outcrops of rock make for some interesting & beautiful green side views whilst much of the routing offers ocean vistas stretching for miles to the horizon. Constructed circa 1940 World War 2 watchtowers sprung up all along the English Scottish eastern coastline as defensive early warning posts. One such structure overlooks the golf course here lending its location to the title. The default settings for The Watchtower are:
Theme: Highlands. Atmospheric Conditions: Summer, Mid Morning, Light Cloud. Holes: 18. Approximate Length: 7350 yards. Par: 72 ( x4 par 3, x10 par 4, x4 par 5). Fairways: Firm Greens: Firm. Greens speed: Medium Fast @165 feet putt rating. Tees: Red 7003 yards. .….... Gold 7196 yards. …..... Black 7352 yards. Crowds on course: Yes. Selected Pics:
I made a short video to showcase some of the holes..... enjoy & feel free to let me know what you think.

I was able to reach it by helicopter. haha
I hacked it around on The Watchtower just a little while ago from the furthest back tees, #4 pin placements. The course starts out VERY promising, but it loses steam about halfway through. The first five or so holes were absolutely fantastic but then it was kind of like you gave up on following through with the same level of care that you had with the beginning holes.
The first hole that stood out to me that needed attention was the #6 hole. I felt that the slope of the fairway leading to the hole was too drastic, it may have even violated the "mow rule." It would have been better to be more gradual or even stop the fairway at the base of the hill. Also, I don't mind the use of the stock bunker brushes, but a more "official" course reviewer might hold that against you. at times the fairways seemed a bit too generous in the sense that there wasn't much decision making involved off of the tee. Tightening up a couple of the fairways on the back 9 could add a little bit more drama. the greens were also pretty big...again, easy targets.
Anyhow, the course has a lot of potential and i think you should keep editing it.

Thanks for the constructive feedback charliehustleKnew I should have placed a heliport behind the marina I think you're right about hole 6 (the short par 4). Thought I had a decent mix bunkers but yes maybe a tad too many round / oval ones. As for the generous fairways & greens I'd be Interested to know the wind speed / direction & what difficulty level you played (Master / Pro etc) & the individual set up? It has been approved to the database so it won't be getting an edit I'm afraid unless a scheduler specifically asks for one.

Just finished playing your course and I had both things I loved and didn't love about it.
The mountain backdrop is a cool look and I love all the little details you put around the course. I like the majority of your holes and felt they were for the most part well done, not too punishing, but not too easy either, just a good level and consistent level of difficulty throughout.
I have to agree that hole 6 is just a monstrously punishing volcano hole and wouldn't be surprised if it ended up being your #1 handicap hole. I think mainly it felt out of place just because of it's difficulty. The default lighting setting on your course isn't doing it too many favors, too bad sunny days make all the colors seem so unrealistically bright in this game, maybe add in some fog or haze or even an overcast day (which I think fits the theme well lol) would make the course with those dramatic mountains really "Pop".
I played TGCT settings (master clubs and whatnot) and shot -5

Cheers QI'm Already regretting hole 6... I like your description of it being a "monstrous volcano" ... pretty sure I will end up ruing its inclusion. I did add a touch of haze... 0.2 on the scale & honestly the colors are fine on my high end PC just like you see in the showcase video. Thanks for revealing your club settings & round score... well played.

You stuck with your comfort zone style of design, mountains, rocks etc Decent outlook and playability, plays ok and had a decent time Design /layout was average but...... It wasnt outstanding , its an average course design and didnt excite me but played ok sam, its a solid build
Youve made some really good courses and thats when your keen, enthused and creative and youve done some homework which then brings out your best .
But to me it seems you possible were not at your best and were a bit flat and half hearted and it shows, which is fair enough We all know you can do some good quality courses, ive been keen on some of your previous ones and had a fun time playing them going way back , maybe you need a break and some inspiration
I think you should go back to the old way we used to do courses, make a beta, get some feedback, youve got some good mates who can get you inspire you , take it in, rinse and repeat, bulldoze, shovel some dirt around with some sand until a gem is produced.
other eyes and helpful ideas from your mates can really help you see things from another perspective, we do get stuck in our own little world. thats normal
You know what i mean, weve done this before to make some rippers from you
Just letting you know my honest thoughts.
Gave it 3 stars, thats ok, youve had plenty of courses on tour so youve had a decent run and have good standings around here
thanks for all your efforts and contributions Sammy

Yayyyy!! You bought the game at last pingzingWelcome to PGA Tour 2K21. Thanks for your honest & constructive criticism... You've just reiterated what I've been told away from the thread. Tis true... I'm gettin' old & stuck in my ways - need to snap out of the "comfort zone" & try something different. I have an outside chance of making the "World Cup of Design" field (32 designers) so if I do it will give me the chance to create something special. Glad you're back mate... good luck on the Challenge Circuit.
