Hi all, I came to PGAX from TW08 where I used a mouse and had a reasonably good swing. I find it almost impossible to draw the joystick straight back and through. Can anyone offer any tips, tricks or videos that might help. I'm stuck in the bottom half of Q school every week and am desperate. Many thanks for reading this and for any help

Many thanks for reading this and for any help Ken (Ernie Yells) Two ideas: First; go back to mouse/keyboard, that is what I use; if you set the DPI over 1200 or so you probably won't get a "Fair Play" pull. Second, look up youTube videos from shauny (I don't know his handle right off hand, he is a good player); he shows a two thumb on one stick method which seems to improve swing plane quite a bit. I don't think it does anything for tempo but I am not sure. Keep at it, it will probably get easier.

Think of your controller as being an actual golf club. What this means is that the first thing you need to do is set your grip. The way you hold your "club" will effect the outcome of your swing.
Secondly, make sure that after you have the correct grip, you need to make sure your stance is correct. In this case, your stance is the angle in which your controller is rested. If you are lazy with the controller and lean it too far left or too far right, it will have a drastic effect on your shot.
From this point, you need to recognize that the motion of your thumb will have a natural arc to it. You will also need to recognize that the center of the swing plane on your controller has a certain level of resistance to it. This part is relative to your swing technique. You will have fine tune your swing to make accomodations.
Make sure to take practice swings to dial in your timing and swing path.
Note that you don't necessarily have to make a full back swing motion to play a shot. All you need to do is move the controller back far enough to get the meter moving. This method is recommended for putting but your may be able to apply it to other shots.
Lastly... Don't forget to recalibrate your swing if you make adjustments to your technique.

Thanks ranger and charliehustle for your replies will consider all these options Ken One other note - you don't necessarily need to 'just' use your thumb because of the natural arc motion - I use the 'chess piece' method - first finger and thumb - it works for me to maintain a nice straight swing plane.

Same for me with the thumb and index finger. I use left hand on the right joystick

I just recently got a good PC, so I bought the game for that also, previously was on Xbox One X. I was having trouble even hitting Even on Xbox using Beer League setting and now switching to Keyboard/Mouse on the PC and figuring out the swing, I'm below par pretty consistently now, first round for Beer League this week was a -8. So I would recommend if you're used to key/mouse go back.

Well said.. pretty much explains it IMO... but may be hard for some to understand.
