Really excited to see Cape Ari in tournament conditions. It's a fantastic track! I don't think there's much chance of me moving up, but I'm going to play all four rounds anyway, because the course is so good.

I remember playing this course a while back. Thought it was really good, so this promo event should be fun! Looking forward to this one.

So how do these Promo events work? I get the idea of them but basically do you just have to score better then the average in your division and you get bumped up?

Shortish version: Each tour has a certain number of tour cards available. As people promote up from lower tours it opens up more slots on those tours. The main leaderboard is then used starting at Platinum - the top XX get cards and then we move to the next lower tour. Filter out anyone with that tour card and give out XX cards - rinse repeat all the way down to CC-L.
So you can jump up quite a bit with good play - and even average shooting can move you up a tour or two since there's a lot of movement as we back fill people that have been promoted. Usually 300+ promotions per event - roughly 35% of people finishing all 4 rounds will get a promotion.

Excited to get at this next week! I have been playing my best golf the last couple weeks and have high expectations of making a big move out of CC-E. See you all at Cape Ari!

How does this occur? Does TGC have hundreds of members who stop playing every few weeks?

Maybe I am reading this wrong but I think what he means to say is why are there promotion events? Do people just stop playing the game and that’s the reason to have the promotion events?

Yes, the promotion events help fill up the tiers to maximize how many people are regularly playing in each tier. If you step away for a month (due to business or whatever), you stay in that tier and can resume when you get back, but they will add someone (either through regular promotions for wins or points, or promotion events)to keep the active players in the 140 range for each tier.

Thanks to HoneyBadger for clarifying that for Blade, I wondered what he was responding to. However I realise that something that may appear clear to me does not to others, particularly in other parts of the world. So in other words the number on the leagues may be fluid as presumably someone is only removed after not playing for say 2 months? Quite amazing to me then that you might have to replenish 250-400 places after a few weeks. The PGA tour can be very tedious for not so good players (me) and who wants to play 30 rounds to achieve nothing at the end, amazed that people play it. However with TGC within each 4 rounds always something to play for, so totally different. Nevertheless I know 3 people from WGT who joined at the same time as me who have stopped playing because they are dissatisfied with the level that they have achieved or that they prefer to play say 'Call of Duty'.

Sorry, the misunderstanding was mine. People don't get removed, but they get labelled "inactive". I am sure there is some limit (the start of next season?) but my understanding is they won't remove you, they just don't count you as an active player anymore. The first promo event was after quite a while, but I agree, I am surprised it is 250 after this short of time. Perhaps they undershot on purpose knowing this was coming up. I don't know of course, just guessing. Of course there is some normal turn as people lose interest or life gets in the way. I played WGT for 2 years a while back. I enjoyed it but the stutter in the swing timing always plagued me. I quit because I deployed, but when I came back they had started changing to the new style of interface and I didn't like it as much. Also, I was in a very busy job and if you don't play regularly, you won't be all that great. This came out the month after I retired, so plenty of time now!

Last weeks' events still have to be finalized sometime today before this weeks' event show on a leaderboard here. When it does show it is a under the PGA tour. It will be found here
It may or may not need Admin Tim to put the field in there. If so, it is possible that it may not be live until Monday morning.
