Alright guys, been watching NFL for about 3 or 4 years now, so I am relatively new to the sport. However I have completely immersed myself in the sport, I have watched every game on tv in that period, every thurs and mon night game and 3 games every sunday. Ive been a soccer fan for my whole life but I have recently fallen out of love with the sport mainly due to VAR.
Anyway i have noticed that in NFL the refs seem to throw dubious flags which help the losing team, particularly late in the game. I have also heard Roger Godell say he roots for the losing team...
Is it possible these refs are instructed to make calls for the losing teams to make games close? they also seem to make calls that benefit some of the marquee players from what I can tell.
Essentially the NFL seem to view it like mario kart where if youre losing the game helps you catch up.
I believe this is very bad for the sport. Has anyone else noticed this? Am I wrong? I am all ears to hear opinions on this! I frickin love the sport more than i ever thought possible I am totally hooked, I just dont like this element.

There would be severe consequences for any ref if the league found out they were purposely doing this. Especially with the amount of money wagered on these games. Usually they show replays of the penalty. When they do, ask yourself if it’s a penalty. If so, then the call was legit. If not, try to consider the visual angle of the ref who made call and what it might have looked like from their angle of the play. Also note we have the benefit of replays in slow motion with multiple camera angles. Yes there are bad calls but they aren’t on purpose. But I do think there is such a thing as a make up call. Meaning if they felt they did make a bad call or missed a serious penalty on a previous play, they may throw the other team a bone with a holding call. Since there’s is holding on almost every play in the trenches anyway it’s an easy give. But calls to help a losing team? Nope.

I've been a lifelong NFL fan and about 13y ago (coinciding with EA FIFA series) took up Premier League Soccer... in the past 3y with NBCSN and Peacock we get every single Premier League game. Getting your games at 7,9,11a every weekend morning is a great way to start the weekend!! Soccer games over by 1, in time for the NFL. 2. I also bet on a lot of College and NFL football- if you think the losing teams are the beneficiaries of generous calls without being biased... you should see me lose my mind when the Officials blow calls in favor of the losing team and then double down after replay. Again, I am biased and I have $$$ riding on the outcome. It just seems like it happens every.single.game. I have thought a lot about this... there's no way it really happens. Those officials are under so much scrutiny- getting graded on every single play... it would be a short career if this was the case. Also, I think a retired life long Official would have written a tell all book about it if there was any truth to that.
