Since I've really enjoyed following everyone else show some WIP notes, and a major jaw-drop when Chiang Mai got released, I figured I could throw in a couple updates (even though it's a long way from finished).
I'm trying to keep this realistically based, so the elevation changes are not extreme. Trying for more of a rolling hill, tree-lined, rocky-outcropping feel without overdoing the stone work.
Here are a couple early looks.

Hoping you'll have a beta out to kick the tires. Keep up the good work!

Getting closer to producing a reasonable beta. The planting slog is real! But it's coming together with a consistent look and feel finally.
Here's a few more teaser images until I can get a playable course demo-able course ready.
Looking down number 1 fairway - the opening par-4.
Coming in to number 9 green - a driveable par-4. Green and waste area to leading to 17 - the final par-3.

A test version of the course is published now. I still have a lot of undergrowth to plant, and accessory stuff to work through (clubhouse, surrounding cottages, etc), but if anyone is able to provide some feedback on the course so far I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks in advance, looking forward to what others think!
The beta course is published as "RDC petrichor beta". This is likely the only beta I will publish before the final submission.

Some extra notes about the style/feel of the course: this is built to feel like it’s constructed in a Ontario-Muskokan environment (Canadian). There are some really interesting courses built IRL carved out of rugged and rocky terrain in the Muskokas in Ontario — ideally this should feel like a similar environment, where the granite of the Canadian shield is exposed routinely. Courses in this region frequently have moderate-strong winds, most commonly blowing in the north, east, or southerly direction. I’ve also tried to mute my elevation changes on the greens (mostly), so a lot of the sloping should be consistent with the surrounding terrain. Default greens are set between fast and very fast (8.1). Enjoy!

Hey -just played the beta so thought I'd pop on some overall thoughts. As I've noted in another beta thread, I'm very new to the designer so these are just comments based on my relative inexperience. Loved the way the course played. Played pinset 1 in relatively strong winds and found it a tough challenge but really enjoyable. (I play on elite and knocked it around in 1 over - admittedly not really concentrating on the play, but gives you an idea that this isn't an easy track by any means I think). I really like the overcast moody lighting choice and think it fits really nicely with the textures you've chosen. Not sure if you can push the haze/fog a little more to add to the overall mood perhaps? I think that the planting that was done was really nice and once you extend it through to under some of the under-tree areas it will look fantastic (I think the stuff on 6 was really nicely done). Personally, I don't see what the rockwork is adding on any of the holes and it doesn't really fit with the rest of the surrounds to my eye. In some cases I think it draws the attention from what i think is some really nice understated planting in most areas. As I say, this is very much a personal preference though and others may really like it. [EDIT - I've just seen your update post about the rocky nature of the terrain, so it may be that this is exactly the look you're going for] Thought the hole designs worked generally but my only potential thought to look at is the par 3 greens. On 2 of them (3 and 12 maybe) I'd question whether it's possible to hold the green given the mid to long iron I had to use, but I'm not sure if that was a product of the wind strength and direction. Might be worth looking at the green sizes for those particularly as a couple of them were quite shallow. I had a similar thought on 17 and did wonder if the green size meant it would be difficult to fit 4 pin locations. Difficult to say though with my relatively untrained eye. Bunker sculpting isn't really something I'm an expert on, so I can't really comment with any authority, but a few of them didn't look like they were sitting quite right to me. Hopefully if Ben ( b101 ) does a playthrough you could get him to comment on that specifically perhaps. Anyway, as I mentioned up front, I really enjoyed it and am looking forward to seeing how it turns out.

Hey thanks so much for the play through and for the thorough feedback! And congrats for finishing your course, I think I saw it published earlier!
I’m glad you feel like the foggy setting turned out well, I wasn’t sure if it would be too contrasted to some settings that seem to be more preferred, like the low sun and such. I can definitely push it more, this is dialed back from where I first had it set to.
I’m glad you mentioned green sizes on the par 3s too. That’s intentionally about as small as I was comfortable going - I was hoping to make them tough to hold (good shots stay, average shots probably end up on the edges) but it’s possible I’ve pushed that envelope a little too far. I’ll review those for sure, so thanks for commenting because I was hoping to get feedback on them!
Likewise with the bunkers, I’d be happy to hear lots of opinions. I know there are a couple for sure that need reworking, but I’ve overhauled most of them three or four times already (shallow, deep, angled, etc), so I’m not even really sure which direction I should be headed for them anymore lol. Did you feel like they were too deep overall? Or just not cut into the surrounding terrain naturally?
Anyway thanks a ton again for reviewing, I’m looking forward to seeing all the course come out, and getting to yours in a day or two as well. Cheers.
