Hey fellow designers and golfers,
I recently completed my first fictional course on PGA2K21. It is called Briar Valley Country Club and is designed to play like some of the courses you can find in the Philly suburbs and out towards the center of PA. I have included a course description below. I love for you folks to play it and give an honest review. I tried to make it challenging for all golfers with water, sand and briar patches on the course. The course is set up with tournement crowds and structures. I tried to have it set up as a medium size PGA event would be (think BMW Championship) and I recommend it be played from the blue tees with medium wind in any direction.
Course: Briar Valley Country Club
Par: 71
Blue: 7,194 yards
White: 6,517 yards
Red: 5,818 yards
Greens: Firm
Fairways: Firm
Green speed: Medium-fast
Pins: 4
Course description: This golf course resides in the Briar Valley, on the easter side of the Appalachian Trail. The Briar Valley, by its name, is filled with thick briar patches and thickets, which can come into play on several holes on this course. While the back nine holes play a bit tougher than the front nine, golfers shouldn’t be flippant as they navigate the grounds. All briar patches and thickets found on the course are playing as out-of-bounds, and come into play alongside fairways and below the tee boxes on par 3’s. This course offers longer hitters the ability to clear corners, and land on downslopping fairways to make the course shorter, but this can have negative affects as it can make second and third shots play from odd distances. Briar Valley offers a few two and three tiered greens, slopping fairways and natural bolder and rock formations as the valley is a fairly bolder heavy area being this close to the Appalachian mountain range.

What I would change about the course: I think I could’ve done a better job with routing and changing up some of the elevations.
Par 3’s: 3 out of 5 par three’s play alongside or over water and all play downhill. Could’ve changed that up a bit.
Fairways: 4 or 5 fairways play up and over a hill, which offers too many blind second shots.
Bunkers: While I am happy with the arrangement of bunkers on the course, I think some of them are a little too close to the greens.
Tree line: I like the placement of tree’s but I could’ve backed them off the fairways and greens a bit more.
Tee boxes: The sightlines from the tee boxes could be much better.
Overall: The course plays well and can be challenging, but could offer more variety in the way of hole layout and design.
What I like about the course: I like the water and boulder features I created on the course. I had to create the water along the 12 fairway and I think it came out well. I also like the briar and thicket patches I created and I feel like I kept that theme strong as the course plays through.
Final Assesment: I think this is a B- course. I think for designing this course on a console (PS4) and this being my first course it came out well. I don’t think I left any areas to barren or weak in terms of planting and it plays like a real private golf course. I decided against adding cart paths as I think this type of course would be a caddy-only golf course.

As I mentioned above, I would greatly appreciate a play of this course and a rating from you on the game, as well as your thoughts on this course posted below on this thread. Feel free to offer any constructive criticism you have on this course. Happy to play your courses as well and trade reviews. Drop your course name and username below as well and I’ll check them out and offer a review if you want.
I am working on my second course now and I am already designing it in a completely different way and it is going much faster as I have a better idea of what I want to do after a good amount of research. That course should be published in a few weeks.
Thanks for reading all the way down here. I appreciate all feedback.
Best,
