Hey all, I've been around here for a while now and that may make you think I'm a "gamer". However I play 1 game...this one. So I'm sort of a neophyte when it comes to gaming systems, controllers and the technical aspects of things. My question is this: When PS5 drops is it a good idea to pick it up if I only play this game? Or should I stick with PS4? Or stick with PS4 until the bugs of PS5 are ironed out? Help an old fella out. Thanks in advance.

Might as well stay with ps4 unless there is an upgraded version for ps5 which i don't think there will be. You may need a Ps5 for 2022 though.

I would just stay with your PS4..I reached out to 2K and asked if there was going to be a "next gen" version of this for PS5 and they stated no. I'm only getting a PS5 because I play MANY other games Can't wait for Nov. 12th!!!!!!!

Sports games are typically among the last that get released on old consoles. I'd expect there'll probably be at least another version or two released on PS4 before 2K decides to move on. It may lack some of the features of the PS5 version but'll still have more than the Switch version. Unless you're also in the market for a 4K Blu-ray player right now then I would see no reason to upgrade in the immediate future.

Same thing here. 95% TGC and 5% HBO MAX. LG TVs do not get HBOMax so I have to use the PS4. PS5 might have real 4K.

I’m in the same boat...this is the only game I play and can’t justify getting a PS5 for that. Maybe if Vue was still around I could

Help an old fella out. Thanks in advance. There's one huge IF that's looming regarding your question: will PGA TOUR 2K21 be updated in a patch to free it from the 30 FPS lock to which it's currently relegated on the PS4 and PS4 Pro? If they add a couple of lines of code and install a sortware switch that allows PS5 users an option to disable vsync, and/or set vsync to 60 Hz, and/or include a Variable Refresh Rate option for owners of VRR capable displays, the answer would be a resounding YES, as this would allow the PS5 to run 2K21 at 60 FPS, or higher. This game is transformed into something truly special at 60 FPS. 2K21's tempo component suddenly feels like something you can manage with the degree of fidelity needed to make it feel properly scaled. You have to feel it to appreciate it, as the experience is so much more visceral. I'm hoping that HB Studios is actually planning to go a little beyond their only comment on the question of next-gen backward compatibility regarding the PS5 and XBox Series X. When asked in the Reddit PGA TOUR 2K forum Q&A about it, Shaun West responded: "There will not be a bespoke version of the game for the new platforms but PGA TOUR 2K21 will support backward compatibility." That's about as non-committal a statement as they could make on it, but a safe one. I don't know that it's going to take much of an effort, if any, to simply make it backward compatible, and make it indistinguishable from the PS4 Pro in appearance and performance. I'll be very disappointed if they don't at least unlock vsync to enable ~60 FPS performance on the PS5.

It's great reading your posts.
One question. Are you saying the xbox AND the PS4 are both locked at 30fps ?
Thus meaning only high spec PCs can handle 60fps.

And would optimising the video recording settings to lowest resolution help or is it simply just a total lock at 30 fps no matter what you do.

It's great reading your posts. One question. Are you saying the xbox AND the PS4 are both locked at 30fps ? Thus meaning only high spec PCs can handle 60fps. HB Studios said in their official forum that the PS4 Pro and XBox One X versions of TGC 2019 were locked at 30 FPS, with the PS4 Pro resolution a native 1600p and the XBox One X at 2160p. They've made no definitive statement about the same for PGA TOUR 2K21, although I know the feel of the XBox One X version of 2K21 feels the same speed at TGC 2019. I would strongly imagine the same is true for the PS4 Pro version. For whatever reason, HB Studios doesn't seem to want to talk about video and performance specs. I have a slightly better than average PC and it can run 2K21 at 60 FPS in 2160p with vsync disabled in the settings menu. Some courses, like Quail Hollow CC, tax it at 2160p and I have to drop the res to 1440p to run around 60 FPS. A PS5 would probably be about 10% more powerful than my gaming PC and I don't think it would have trouble maintaining at, or near 60 FPS on most courses. Turning vsync off is said to produce screen tearing, but I'm pretty much oblivious to it... others might be more sensitive to it. I can see screen tearing results in still pics, but I don't pick them up in game play.

And would optimising the video recording settings to lowest resolution help or is it simply just a total lock at 30 fps no matter what you do. As long as the vsync is locked at 30 Hz, you're going to be relegated to 30 FPS, no matter what else you do. There isn't anywhere near the number of video settings available in the console versions as there are on the PC version. You can really fine tune your performance on the PC version to a wide variety of image quality and performance options.
