Hi all - looked through the last couple pages for a similar thread but couldn't find anything.
I'm looking for some tips on how to play around the green. I generally either use a chip shot with my 60 degree lob wedge (when very close, essentially just off the green <12 yards to the hole), or I use a splash shot with one of my wedges (anywhere from 12-36 yards away from the hole). I can normally get it decently close (until we move to 25+ yards out), but I find I'm not really a threat to chip in that often.
What types of shot are people using in these situations? And are we lofting, de-lofting, adding spin, or taking off spin?

Depends on the situation for me. Sometimes I'll use a partial pitch for those 20-30m shots as they seem to stop faster than splashes or flops for some reason. I also have better tempo with them. Splashes and flops I always tend to hit too fast. In that instance I increase loft and spin to max, and set the marker at about a metre or two short of the pin, then just use my normal swing tempo. Most times it lands close enough for an easy one putt.
There are times I'll use splashes and flops as well, just depends how well I'm hitting pitches. If I'm having an off day on them I'll change to one of the others. Generally with flops and splashes I'll put full spin on to stop it quicker, maybe adjust loft depending on the distance.
Many ways to skin a cat.

anything under 12 yds I will play for the chip as I hole a good deal of them from the fringe. I use the splash anywhere from 16yds to 35 yds playing for the rollout. Quick splash shots will stop on a dime. Not overly fond of how the flop works in this game so I try to avoid it unless it's a distance I have to use a flop on

It's pretty much spot on how I approach things. Although I will chip up to about 15 yrds and then splash after that. Lofting a splash shot will prevent rollout, which can prevent holing a shot out, but keep you close to the hole.

I try to avoid hitting percentages like the plague. So I chip from 8-12 yds (putt less than that). From 23yds to about 55yds I use flop or splash, which ever gives me a full shot. But from 13-22 yds I have no full shots so I find it easier to hit a low percentage pitch as opposed to a 90-95% splash shot. But 96% is easy

Thanks for all the tips! Sounds like there is no one or best way to approach this.
For those chips 8-12 yds from the hole (seems a bunch of people use chips in that situation), I generally tend to de-loft a little and put back spin on the ball. I find this gives me a better chance to hole out. Is that the method others use?

Am I the only one who hits chips longer than 12 yards? I'm basically chipping almost anything inside 20 yards that doesn't have some crazy slope that causes problems with rollout. Sometimes I will chip much longer shots like 25 or 30 yards

I personally use splash shots instead of pitch shots. I find them way easier to hit the right tempo and I can make full swings instead of trying to guess the partial shot power of a pitch. 15 yards or less I will chip it but I'm not very good at them. I find that using as much backspin as possible helps as I tend to run chip shots past the hole a lot. On some occasions, I will use a flop shot instead of a pitch or splash depending on the distance (i.e. if the distance to the hole lines up better for the flop shot). On the fringe 15 yards or less, I'll most likely putt unless there's a big elevation difference.

Right now from the distance you listed I would say I have a better than 50% conversion rate

This may sound daft, But as i have improved, and my fairways a Girs have gone up in % I throw a round of practice in now and again missing all fairways and greens to practice my shots from rough and round the green. Helps for me
Regards Chef.

I would not add backspin unless it is a severe downslope but I might add topspin to get a little extra roll
