So today for the first time in 2k21 I decided to hit the matchmaking, and since its on pro, I found a few new things. But one of them stood out to me the most:
The add/remove loft functionality on golf clubs does not make much sense to me. I am on PS4 for the example....
When I hit any club 5 iron or less, hitting UP on the left (loft) stick adds distance. When I am hitting driver, 3 wood, hybrid, 4 iron, they go a shorter distance. Has anybody spend the time working out the distances and if so what club does this change occur? I have honestly never spent the time on this game, so I have not really spent the time noticing the nuances of the loft.

Honestly - I am just surprised as in the Q school/first event I have been assuming that hitting UP on the left stick has added distance to all shots. This proved to me that this might not be the case.

I think you get that, but if not... there ya go.
Anyways, whenever I swap in a new club I go to the driving range and flip on the True vision to map a few points of loft/deloft.
So in this chart is the current setup I have for TGCTours rounds. The distances are all in carry distance. Full deloft is pushing the left analog as far up as it goes, half deloft is just an eyeball thing, normal is default no movement of the left analog, half loft is another eyeball halfway down, and full loft is the left analog pulled all the way to the bottom. I have a last column for pulling both L and R analogs all the way down as well.
Edit: It seems that, yeah, from 5I on up you lose distance anytime you deloft at all. From 6I on down you get an arc where it goes up to a certain point and then back down with even more deloft until the wedges where there is minimal distance loss between a half delofted and fully delofted club. I have also noted that even with the same club type, you can get variance with differences in stats. A "strong" 9I will have slightly different lofting/delofting number differences than a "weak" 9I if that makes sense.

From 6I on down you get an arc where it goes up to a certain point and then back down with even more deloft until the wedges where there is minimal distance loss between a half lofted and fully lofted club. I have also noted that even with the same club type, you can get variance with differences in stats. A "strong" 9I will have slightly different lofting/delofting number differences than a "weak" 9I if that makes sense.
This is great. I should put together one of these things honestly that would benefit me a lot. I have been under the assumption that delofting always adds distance, so when I was a couple of yards short on a 3 wood carry i would half deloft and assume it would add, but in fact it actually removes yardage. I have also noticed that a "fast" swing seems to remove loft, so maybe "fast" swings with my 3 wood are not carrying as far as I expect them too because of this. Interesting really I wish I spent the time when this game came out to figure out really what it meant Thanks for the response!

That's a really helpful chart SWA- and it's interesting that you picked a 4i that carries farther than your 3i. One point for JFT is that those are all Carry distances... the carry distances is much less with the delofted long irons, but the roll out will be increased with the deloft.
