Set high up in windswept cliff-top dunes, overlooking the glistening ocean, Nelson Dunes is a challenging 6700m / 7300y par 73. The test here though is not from tight fairways, heavy rough and small greens. At Nelson Dunes, golfers are greeted by wide open fairways and large greens, meaning players of all abilities can get around without being tortured. The true test is navigating the heavily undulating fairways and deep bunkers while trying to find the best angles to approach large greens which hide pins amongst devilish bowls, ridges and slopes. The lay of the land, along with the strong winds local to the area, plus firm & fast ground conditions, provide a test only the most committed advocate of ‘bomb & gouge’ golf would not find enjoyment in. Scoring well at Nelson Dunes comes with utilising all the shots in your bag - downwind bombs, fades, draws, pin seekers, runners and using the slopes to your advantage. I hope someone out there finds it enjoyable. (Note - This is my first attempt at design and I’m under no illusions of grandeur here. I reached a point, with the bunkering in particular, where I felt I couldn’t make this what players would really like to see without completely redoing it, so I’ve decided to publish and move on to my next project). Hole 1 Hole 2 Hole 3 Hole 4 Hole 5 Hole 6 Hole 7 Hole 8 Hole 9 Hole 10 Hole 11 Hole 12 Hole 13 Hole 14 Hole 15 Hole 16 Hole 17 Hole 18

Are those fairways as bumpy and moundy as I hope they are?

Are those fairways as bumpy and moundy as I hope they are? I doubt it. They’re very uneven, but certainly not those wild rippled kind of links land fairways you may be thinking of. As I said, first attempt and all.

Check out designer digitalbunny’s latest courses when he ports them. You remind me of him and I think his stuff would be a good inspiration for you.

I'm intrigued to check this one out this weekend. One totally non-serious question though...why not name it Nelson Cliffs?

I ended up playing all 18 real quick because I liked the first hole. I love the undulating, voluptuous fairways and red slopes/mounds/backstops used for the massive green complexes. The visuals of that is highly engaging. Most designers shy away from severe slopes and mounds for fear of what Idk but more should utilize that look. It is the most immersive experience. And massive greens are usually frowned upon but not when you create them like you did. So many awesome hole locations I envisioned while playing. I love your imagination. I tell ya...You are going to be GOOD.

I just wanted to build something that looked like what I enjoy playing and big greens with variety in pin placements (particularly those where the pin position can impact driving strategy), are a big part of that.

Just played this, really enjoyable round, I would describe it as golf turned up to 11. I totally agree with rcknfrewld about the big undulations, would like to see more of this in general. I prefer the larger greens too. I think the layout was very well thought out on this course. Keep up the good work

Haven’t played yet, but judging from this pics this is a brave (and I mean that as a compliment) first effort. Probably gonna have some spots that are a little rough around the edges so to speak, but with time and practice using the tools you will be able to refine your touch and bring a lot of needed boundary pushing into your designs. Keep working at it because the intent is all there. Excited to see you get more confident with this.

I decided to use your course tonight for the opening finals rounds in Maximum Daily on PS4. We have many top ranked golfers on tour and I think they will enjoy this test. We MAX everything out so it should be a challenging and fun and hopefully frustrating test.

I did a lot of testing in high winds from every direction and it held up pretty well in terms of balls staying on fairways when catching slopes away from preferred landing zones. Very high winds and firmest fairway surfaces will be fun.
