I just want to start of this review by saying I am relatively new to TGC and look at course design from a perspective of an IRL golfer. I played this course 4 times on all 4 pin positions from the Black Tees on Default settings using the standard difficulty setup of TGC Tours. Overall Initial impressions:
Small Red Trees in Fairways: This seems to be a consistent theme on the course, I have no opinion on this
Very Tiny Greens: This is also very consistent. The green complexes are tiny but fair, i've only seen one IRL course that has greens this tiny. The pin positions dont really change the feel of the course much because the greens are already so small.
Narrow Fairways: The fairways are also quite small, a couple under 20 yards wide. Pair this with extremely close trees and it means I rarely hit driver off of most holes. I personally dont mind this too much but I know a lot of TGC members do.
Lots of Blind shots off the tees: Sightlines on this course are a little hard to judge and are often completely blind, I don't think this course would be very possible without the scout camera enabled. Being forced to layup and then hit 200+ yards the 2nd shot is not the most fun. it kinda eliminates how much choice I have on each hole.
Strange elevations on forward tees: When looking over some of the holes the forward tees awkwardly jut out and look kinda unrealistically elevated.
Hole by Hole 1: Best green complex on the course, great hole 2: Decent par 3, back bunkers are pretty funky 3: forward tee box strangely elevated, 20 yard wide fairways. tiny tiny green. not a fan 4: Good sightlines off of tee, decent par 5, greenside bunker has some weird ripples 5: seems like a repeat of 3, same design except larger bunker in front of the tiny green. green complex might be too flat? prefer this to 3 6: great looking par 3, green is pretty tiny but all around solid 7: very strange sightline off the tee. kinda similar to 4. 8: ultra narrow fairway, great green complex 9: kind of a strange elevation change hole. really tiny green, blind tee shot. probably one of the harder greens on the course 10: decent sightline, solid par 4 11: No fairway visible off the tee. weird elevations around the rough. always aimed left through the clearing. if you elevate the tee box this would be a decent par 4 12: Great par 3, your par 3s are all solid. This green is a little blocky, smooth that spline a bit 13: weirdly elevated forward tees. triple tiered green is interesting. solid par 4 14: solid par 4 15: cow. long fairway is an interesting choice but it's the only par 3 that does this, it also is the same length as 12 with the same elevation change so it might come off as a tad repetitive 16: Similar to 3 and 5, same opinion as well, 5 is the best of them. 17: similar to 7, solid par 5 18: solid par 4
Favorite Holes: 1,4,12,15
Final Thoughts: -You have three par 5s that slight dogleg in the same way and are within 10 yards in length of eachother, maybe shake it up a bit -you have quite a few par 4s featuring a similar design (narrow fairway, green separated by a large bunker). -your two par 3s on the back are both 200 yards 50ft down. maybe shift the tee boxes slightly. -usually the closing hole is something special, spice up the last hole a bit. -Difficulty-wise this course is pretty hard. I was unable to break par all 4 rounds. This course might be a bit too "target golf", I now know where to hit the ball after 4 rounds but that first round was absolutely brutal. I'm not the best at this game but I usually can break par on my settings on most courses.
Overall it is a fun course, some people might hate those red trees or your zit bunkers in fairways but I think they are a fine quirk of the course. Just some additional variation and polish and you're there. the work you put into those par 3s make them stand out, retaining walls are so annoying in general to use but you mostly pulled it off.
