I have found that doing partial swings with pitches is a very hit and miss affair and can easily send the ball flying far further than intended. As such, I tend to avoid them, but figure they would be a useful tool to have at my disposal. I was wondering if anyone had any tips on how to use them safely? Is it just a matter of a load of practice and being extra careful, or something else, or do others just avoid using them like I currently do?

Take a few backswings. You will find that with your desired intent, the club will come back slowly. Remember where that was on your swing plane and try a sit from that position.
Oh yeah, don't forget to cross your fingers. π€

I normally set the aim marker to the distance I want and try to use the same swing as a full shot. Theory being moving the marker slows the backswing down so it should achieve about the right percentage to hit the distance.
I find it's a bit hit and miss with the longer ones where it's like 10-15m short of the full distance of the shot, but I've been using the lob wedge to great effect with short ones around 20-30m from the pin. With these I set the loft and attack angle things right at the bottom, usually sticks it right near the hole.

Thanks for all the advice. I think I will go off and practice them, as figure they would be great to be able to use on a regular basis.

You should avoid partials like the plague for every shot type. For pitches, and short game shots in general, I suggest using the 96% Overswing and adjust for distance by using the shot shaper. Here's a very small example from some of my short game mappings with the Chrome Callaway 60 LW which is rated at 79y (Pitch shots below):
- 48y, LW = Max backspin, Max down angle, and Max draw. - 50y, LW = Max backspin and Max down angle. - 52y, LW = 20% backspin and Max down angle. - 54y, LW = 35% topspin and Max down angle. - 56y, LW = Max topspin and Max down angle. - 58y, SW = Max backspin, Max down angle, and Max draw. - 60y, SW = Max backspin, Max down angle, and 20% draw. - 62y, SW = 40% backspin and Max down angle. - 64y, SW = No backspin and Max down angle. - 66y, SW = 80% topspin and Max down angle. - 68y, GW = Max backspin, Max down angle, and 75% draw. - 70y, GW = Max backspin and Max down angle. - 72y, GW = 25% backspin and Max down angle.
And here is a video showing some short game shots with 96% Overswing:

Surprises me that after 3 attempts they still cannot work any granularity into the partial shot, a partial pitch where you say, may want to take off 40% distance is still pretty much a full swing. Yet again we are subjected to 100% hits to get the best results, most shots you would like to play partial with the pitch is rendered pointless by the splash option on 100%. While i'm at it, why do we even get to use a splash shot when not in the bunker? this is a bit silly and needs removing.

So how do you manage the shots under 45yds - like the 25-35 range? Do you use the splash? I've been forcing myself to use the pitch and I have gotten better, but some of the results just don't make sense. I've reverted to using chip shot for 20yds or less when I have room to roll the ball.. I could use splash, but it just doesn't seem right when not in bunker.. do I need to get over that? LOL..

You can pitch out of bunker quite effectively, provided you have some green to work with the rollout.

Learn partial swings with the wedge splash shots and itβs another weapon. It can be done but there is a learning curve.

Up to 15y a chip, 34y the Splash, and up to 46y the flop. Truth be told, I can do "partial pitches" extremely well, however, the average player who cannot hit to their exact intent will find themselves with more problems than its worth. And I'm not concerned in the slightest about hitting the splash shot, 96%, or any shot which will produce the most consistent results for my desired shot. I do prefer 101% for normal, non short game shots though. So yes, I approach 2K21 as a video game, not IRL, and my gauge of "fun" and "success" is predominantly geared at how low I can score.
So Arcade or uninstall

Why can't they patch that splash out so it only lights up when in sand, i really have to question the knowledge of these devs.... 4 versions and they still cant get it right or know the game itself. The flop has gone from the most used shot in the game to the least used, which is ok, it's more realistic that way....but! they replaced it with the splash from anywhere! absolute madness! rant over
