TGCTours US Open entry...maybe...

So...I said I wasn't going to share anything on this one. I've changed my mind. I feel like when I share I do better work so...I'm going to share.
Planting has not been done on the course so please ignore the lack of "pretty stuff" to look at. It will be there but I'm waiting until I've done all the hard stuff so that I don't plant myself into a corner. PLUS...there's new stuff coming! I want everything to match so I'm waiting till it's all out there.

Par 3's... I may redo them. *shrug* we'll see.
I'm going to toss out some shots but things may change. I may need to toughen it up a bit. Depends on how it plays so if things change the course you end up playing may not match what you see here.


Hole 1 - Long par 4. Tightish landing area but the wind may or may not allow you to be braver than you should. 2nd shot will need to be shaped, lofted or land short to get close.






Hole 2 - little shorter par 4. There's a creek down the right hand side that you will need to watch for in the wrong wind. 2nd shot will provide some issues. Trees slightly obscuring and bunkers all around. Not too bad though. Again, shape your shot into the green or it'll be hard to get close.





Hole 3 - Par 5. Not long if you can get to the little bit of fairway on the right and carry the trees. The left is not any easier... the tee shot will be rough with a driver. If you club down it WILL be a 3 shot. 2nd shot is over water...uphill... but it's a lot of fun to play this one!!







Hole 4 - par 3. Middle length. The green has bunkers on each side and behind...but the real issue will be landing on the green and staying close. This hole will likely have some changes but I'm leaving it alone forthe moment.





Hole 5 - Short par 3. You MAY have a shot to get on the green...but it's undulating and you won't like it if you miss... You'll need to be precise on your approach. This hole is a lot of fun too. You'll like it.






Hole 6 - Longer par 3. Just over 200 yards. Not hard...but the green shaping will require some thought to get close. I like the contouring around it though.





Hole 7 - Par 4. The tee shot does have two options but one will not be a real option if the wind is wrong. If you take the shorter path to the left you'll have an easier approach as there is a tree that gets in the way from the right. It's not that bad though. Nice looking hole but needs some more teeth.










SO! Do me a favor. Take a look. Let me know what you think. Don't blow smoke up my butt though. I need some smacks in the head if this is going to be up to standard. That's why I'm sharing. Give me an opinion if you can! Thanks!

Those bunkers in the 2nd pic, I love those, I was studying some of my bunkers tonight trying to figure where I can improve them and I thought I need a raised then sunken look to them. Then I open this up not 5 minutes later, and there it is confirmed, I love that look. It really makes the bunker pop, and gives it a feel of something I really should avoid. I also like how you are going with more trees then your usual. But I like trees, they give me air.

If anything maybe go with more of that bunker look in the 2nd pic.

You might wish to reconsider the use of light rough as well. I get the use of fairway around your greens as it acts as a run-off, but maybe it should stop in heavy rough. The heavy rough edges look better as a bonus. And I noticed that you use it only on some of the holes, so obviously you are tossed a bit on that, go with none, that's my 2 cents.

Next, keep those fckn shadows off your greens please, they give me a headache whens it's windy. That's more of a crack to Bison then these pics. :-) Consider yourself smacked. :-)

I think I will have two versions. the open without light rough and then one with a small band. Honestly the light rough I have now is maybe like one club length in width. It stops pretty much nothing except maybe around the green.

We'll see. I like most of the course...just not quite sure it's got that special something yet that a great course needs.

The flatten tool is your friend with bunkers. Don't be afraid of it. Use it. You can always smooth out the edges...but getting the depth right means using the flatten tool liberally. don't shy away from the sharp edged brushes either.

I've found that this game automatically smooths things out where sand meets grass so there's really no way to make it a sharp edge.

     Almost spelled that reebdog, I'm sure you have seen that one before. Looks great, do you have a play test version yet, when you do let me know and I'll take it for a spin with notes. I always add plantation last these days so good to know some experienced designers do the same. My latest creation has no light rough around the fairways as it was originally a U.S. Open and in this game you can't cut the light rough at longer length so I feel you have to eliminate light rough around the fairways to emulate a higher cut. I did put light rough around all my greens but no fairway and I tried to put as little as possible unless it made sense to put a bit more for difficult approaches as a bit of relief. My members version will have light rough. Well sorry, enough about my course.  *ahem..* I agree about the bunkers they look great and very intimidating. I'd have to take some more time really studying the pictures to make more constructive comments and I might get a chance to do that if you do not plan to release a tester. A note about plantation: Less is better in my opinion, feels like lately you top dogs have been playing and releasing a lot of courses that look like you are playing golf in a garden. Just an observation.

A few detail shots. STill FAR from done and this is just the front 9. Once I get some details finished on the front and make sure it's playing just right I'll get the back going. It'll be done in a month though...no worries.

I need a couple more testers who can take a private look at this sucker. Anyone that plays on TGC pretty well want to take a peek and see if it'll fit the bill so far?
Send me a PM if you can take a look and give some feedback. It may not change anything...but I am interested in opinions please.

I'll post a few new pics with some more work done on the front nine in a few. The back is coming together...but is still disjointed right now.
