Looks very good mate. Some very nice pics so far. Just started mine a few days ago. Routing done and 2 holes 80% completed. Gave myself a little break after Lush Valley Golf Club

Really looking forward to seeing how this turns out! Love the idea of multiple routings - sounds way too complicated for my tiny mind.

It will either be great or it will be a glorious disaster. Either way, it seemed too good to pass up with this many corridors and double greens at a few anchor points allowing me to send players in different directions.

So after going back and forth over a few projects, I decided to bench them all, step away from designing for a few weeks and see what came out the other end. The end result is going to be loosely inspired by some of the great work King Collins is/may/will be doing which I'll cover in more detail once the course is ready for beta. My plan with this project is to publish it with two different routings (not necessarily reversible as I can go in a lot of directions thanks to multiple double greens) and for each routing to include a set of short course tees whereby every hole is a short 4 or par 3. So for now...here a few pictures of the progress. The surfacing around the edges of the property haven't been tied together yet as I'm still sorting out what I want to do with this drainage ditch/barranca that runs through the property to move water off an otherwise very flat piece of ground. The holes on the east side of the property also haven't had greens, bunkers, anything else built yet but I went ahead and filled in the fairways so the overhead shots made a bit more sense. This green looks so much like the 5th(?) at Sweeten's Cove, I imagine that is what you were going for? If so it looks great!

I've sorted out the last few holes now and completed the major sculpting work. Surfaces are mostly finished other than some bunker shape tweaks and possibly adding a few waste areas along the edges of the property. Then I'll move onto bunker sculpting and the time consuming greens work. In the mean time, a few new pictures... 16 tee (short par 4 based on the King Collins template from 5 at Sweetens Cove) The par 3 7th features a 90yd long green that can play anywhere from 95 to 195yds depending which tee box is used. It also features a nod to the Pons Asinorum bunker once found at Lahinch. King Collins is building a similar feature for the 18th hole at Landmand (a par 5). I decided to incorporate it here on this par 3. This hole also draws inspiration from the 4th at Sweetens. 17 green...this 99yd par 3 won't have you feeling comfortable until your ball is in the hole. 11 green. This is a long par with bunkers staggered throughout the fairway. Which bunkers come into play will be determined by the wind direction (and which routing you're playing). 18th tee. A dogleg right par 5 where wind and a hogsback fairway will determine if you're getting home in two. The "redan bowl" green provides an opportunity to run a long approach shot onto the putting surface...or end up with a tricky downhill chip shot if your ball stays above the green. Looking down the 13th tee with the 12th green in the foreground. The 3rd green, 4th hole, 14th tee/fairway and 18th green are also visible from this tee box. Glamour shot from the 10th green (which is a double green with the 4th). The 12th green sits just beyond but is not connected to the 4th/10th green. The 11th hole is on the other side of the dune and the 17th green is perched up on top of a small plateau in the distance. 4th and 10th double green with 6th hole in the distance. Ignore the stack of trees running across the 6th fairway. They were just there for tee shot testing purposes! ;-) Putting back into the sun on the 4th. 13th green looking back towards the middle of the course. Too many holes visible to count from this angle.

Looking good so far! I like your new course and direction you’ve taken it. I will be looking forward to playing this one!

Turned up autogen planting to see where it filled in and I really like this dead tree on the long par 3 third hole. However, I'll need to move it a bit as it's blocking the view of right greenside bunker. The next thing I need to sort out is what to do with the other tee box. My favorite location for the alternate tee box on this hole is on top of the dune to the left of the tee. It offers a great view and gets the player a bit more off centered from the sun so it's not as blinding. The "problem" I have is that it will look a bit strange to force grass to the top the hill and onto the dune because 1) it would be unmowable and 2) it wouldn't fit the rest of the course. Looking at it now, it's probably too far up the hill already because nobody will ever be running that far off the second green (a short drive and pitch hole). My thought is to put down a patch of fairway there and then plant around it fairly heavily. It's not unreasonable to think somebody could go up there periodically with a push mower or trimmer to keep it in shape. Now I personally love the idea of an alternate teeing area being a dirt spot on top of the dune because you and your buddies thought it would be cool to play the hole with a great view. It also doesn't hurt that it's 50-55 yards closer to the green so you get to attack the green with a 7or 8 iron instead of holding on for dear life with a 3i on a hole that's plays downwind in the prevailing southwest breeze. That being said, I'm confident the dirt would get knocked down by the judges in short order. Any and all thoughts are appreciated here. I could've sworn I took a picture from short of the green as well but only this view from short and right made it to twitter. The green falls off on 3 sides but is otherwise a very tame putting surface with gentle left to right movement.

My brother and I used to do the same sort of thing at Cal Club when we were kids. We played a lot of 7pm summer adventure golf when we were the only 2 on the property. Makes me want to create an adventure version of The Avalon Club as well haha. That being said, you could release a 2nd version of the course as more of a member's course with quirks like this? And then a "tour" version that the judges look at as your submission for the contest itself.

Could you put the 2nd tee area to the right of the first pic, just where the grass ends and the waste area begins? Know that some experienced designers (from a couple of streams I've seen) arent keen on the 2nd tee being higher than the furthest tee box.

I ditched the short par 3, 17th and moved it to a new location where it will be the 15th. There are back to back par 3's on 15 and 16 now. Depending which set of tees you play, you'll either play them at 105/185 or 195/100. The finishing 5 holes are now: 14 - long par 5 with a crowned green as it's only defense. Hold the green and be rewarded...but run off the sides and your chances of making birdie are slim to none. 15 - split tee par 3 with a large redan kicker to help the longer tee shot funnel to back right pins. 16 - split tee par 3 into a well protected green 17 - 280yd par 4 reminiscent of 5 at Sweetens Cove. This is the wildest green on the course. 18 - long par 5 with a redanbowl green that may feed a well struck 3w or driver off the deck onto the putting surface. Waste areas are now coming into form along with green sculpting and bunker sculpting/reshaping. 1st hole, 590 yard par 5 2nd hole, par 4, 375 yards. I may move the tee further to the right but there is zero benefit here to playing up the first fairway (on the left). If you play up the first fairway you'll be left trying to stop an approach into a 15yd deep landing with a bunker short and green running away from you that will most likely send your ball down into the fairway and well below the green. 3rd hole, par 3, 245 red/185 green. After a pair of easy holes to ease you into the round, the fun begins here. The green looks rather intimidating from the tee but is very capable of holding a fairway wood/hybrid approach from this CC-C player. The views are even better from the shorter green tees and you'll have a mid to short iron in your hands. However, you'll now be playing into the green from an angle that wants to send balls to the right so proper planning and execution is required. 4th hole, par 4 330/440. From the reds, this is a drive and pitch playing directly into the prevailing winds. However, it's a much different hole from the green where a driver and mid-iron will be required to find the proper tier of the green. This is a 90yd long double green shared with the 10th. The 12th green can be seen below the waste area.

Looking great man, make sure you look for autogen grass, and either get rid of it or plant some more grass/bushes to add to it. Just a tip I've seen from the community.

This thread seems to be always be in a state of change! Not a dig at all either because I tend to do the same thing haha It does look really cool though and I like where your head is at on some of your hole designs and the environment. Not gonna lie though, I was hoping you'd stick with the steppe theme but I know that is a tough theme to design in for sure. Do you have a beta out for this course?
