Jeff (SmilingGoats) said this deep into the PGA Tour 2K21 / TGC Tours Announcements post regarding the changes coming for the new season - I feel it's important as many eyeballs see and read it as possible. Will remain locked here - was just well spoken from our point of view. Thanks all!
Everyone is looking at this from the perspective of what is best for themself...and I get that, that's only natural.
And it's no different than what Tim, Scott, and I have done. We've had serious conversations about what the future holds and those conversations even included not having any more TGCTours at all. This is a lot of work for no money, lots of grief, and at a significant cost to our time and our families.
The plan we've come up with gets us back to our roots. We were created as a site for competitive golf. But more importantly, it's a plan we think we can move forward utilizing. It's not our intention to make anyone feel as if they're not wanted. But the reality is, we can't keep growing and being all things to all people. It's not sustainable.
We thought hard about making this a pay-to-play site. That would reduce membership and perhaps pay staff to help facilitate things. But ultimately, we don't want to go that route and I'm sure many would find that completely unpalatable.
So, we've come up with a tour structure that will hopefully reduce support tickets. And, we're going to create new features to incentivize donations in the hopes of covering our costs. If that proves successful, we can use any extra money for more development time to help ease the burden on some of the administration. Perhaps then, we can discuss expanding things again.
But for now, this is what's going to keep the doors open. It's not that we're not open to feedback. Feedback is fine, we'll read it. But please let's reduce the "They don't care about us" talk. We do care. It's why there will be a season 7. If you don't find our plan enjoyable, that is regrettable, but it will be for many.
