Hi, I have the chance to purchase a set of LiDAR data in las format for a course, but it will come in 3 separate 'tiles' of 1 x 1km. I'm told they will match up seamlessly.
Before I decide to buy I thought I'd check whether the tool will allow for multiple .las file uploads in the same plot?
If yes, great. If not then I'd need to work out a way to merge them into one and then import them.
Cheers

Cheers The program would merge them for you, the only issue you might have is if the file size of the individual tiles is too large. When I did Milwaukee CC the program choked during the bringing in of the tiles (three in this case). It would do one tile (occasionally two) and then give an error message. It was not any particular tile either, you could rearrange them and it made no difference. The way I finally could get to work was by getting a free set of programs called LasTool (warning - very steep learning curve) which combined the tiles, and then you could select an area closely around the course and it output a new Las file, which Chad's Tool had no problem with. You seem pretty dedicated to doing this, what with paying for Lidar data and all, but I doubt you would get a refund if the data does not work in the tool, so be aware.

Thank you very much for the info. What file size would be considered large? What combined size caused you the errors? And yes I am no chance of getting a refund so I will need to carefully weigh the risk.

I am not sure about the size issue, as I had other lidar files of similar size that did work. I know two of the three files were over 100 MB each though. I would also go get LasTool first before you buy the lidar data and play with it on some other free lidar files just to see if you can deal with it. It is quite complex and intimidating.

Good idea thanks for the suggestion, i'll muck around with LasTool first to get a feel.

OK, downloaded the tool and now I see exactly what you mean about a steep learning curve.
I'll source some random .las files of a plot somewhere in the world and muck around with it a bit.
Thanks for your help, much appreciated.

Thanks for your help, much appreciated. Is this going to be the first time you use Chad's Tool and Lidar? If not just try out LasTool on Lidar files you have already used to build a course; if this is the first time you are really pushing the envelope of difficulty!

Thanks for your help, much appreciated. Is this going to be the first time you use Chad's Tool and Lidar? If not just try out LasTool on Lidar files you have already used to build a course; if this is the first time you are really pushing the envelope of difficulty! I've done a couple of lidar courses for testing purposes on Chad's tool so that side of things i'm comfortable with. Interestingly I attempted to use Chad's tool with two very large lidar files from shadow Creek Las Vegas (both were just over 1.2GB) and while it is slow and briefly went "not responding" it got there in the end. Course file is just under 6MB, I've seen posts on here about bigger sizes so I don't think this is a problem. The plant meter was around 60%. This is promising as the files for my real course are about 250MB each (x 3) and I only did a rough mask, plus that includes all trees from lidar which I won't be doing for my home course. Another factor in plant meter size I've read is the amount of elevation / hills / etc. I'm lucky that my course is really flat, maybe 40ft max between lowest and highest points on the course. So hopefully my plant metre will be <40% full. Plus I'll be planting and decorating in the new game and I've seen videos showing that it gives slightly more space. So whilst I will still play around with lastools, I'm hopeful I won't actually need it. Thanks again, I'm feeling much more confident about progressing now.
