Excellent tips on the course creater thanks. Will be spending alot of time making my course.not sure what happened with the boreal theme cuz it aint on my xbox ?. XB1 got the patch recently - which PS4 and PC already have. Only PC has part of the content update. The patch and content update are two separate updates. Once PS4 and XB1 get the content update, which will include the new theme, HB will unlock the new theme on PC (the only thing we're missing from the content update released last week on PC). Hope that clears it up

I could use a good tip to elevate land gradually, rather than one big lump of dirt. Or how to make a fairway slope down gradually..instead of my tee shot looking like it's going off a cliff. 1. Make sure you are in the raise land option, even if you are lowering. Took me a while to wrap my head around that for some reason. I kept using the flatten tools when I wanted to lower land and that doesn't work at all. 2. The blurry circle and oval are the most useful tools in the creator. Start off with a really large area and gradually move down in size to get your slope. Then flatten out with the blurry circle in with the flatten tool. There was a good video on this that i will try to dig up. I found it helpful to watch how others worked. YouTube has some good videos on the topic. There is also a couple tools useful for sloping. They look like half a circle with one side blurry. Terrible description but hopefullt you will know it when you see it. Fool around with those to see how they work. I don't use them much anymore but they can be useful. Create a test course just to test out all the brushes. They can all be useful if you know what they are meant to do. It's likely most of what I'm saying doesn't make sense unless your familiar with the brushes.

i have some really good idea's for holes but have no skills at all in the course designer and i don't think i will ever get the hang of it. it's a shame as i can think of plenty of good hole layouts.

i have come up with an idea for what par each hole should be and their yardages.
wanted to mix up the yardages with a few long par 4's and a couple long par 5's, also a mixture of par 3's
this is just an outline for me when it comes to actually getting down to starting. (yet to come up with what i want each hole to look like)
Hole 1: 350-400 yds Par 4
Hole 2: 520-550 yds Par 5
Hole 3: 410-440 yds Par 4
Hole 4: 450-480 yds Par 4
Hole 5: 170-190 yds Par 3
Hole 6: 290-310 yds Par 4
Hole 7: 140-160 yds Par 3
Hole 8: 420-440 yds Par 4
Hole 9: 560-580 yds Par 5
Hole 10: 390-410 yds Par 4
Hole 11: 460-490 yds Par 4
Hole 12: 200-215 yds Par 3
Hole 13: 600-620 yds Par 5
Hole 14: 400-430 yds Par 4
Hole 15: 425-450 yds Par 4
Hole 16: 220-235 yds Par 3
Hole 17: 265-290 yds Par 4
Hole 18: 510-530 yds Par 5

I have noticed that some people want to have par 5's at more than 600 yards. At that range, you'd have to have a gale force tail wind to even have a hope of hitting the green in 2. A 8 to 10 mph tail wind wouldn't do it. My design philosophy is par 5's need to be reachable in 2 under the right conditions. Not in every case and certainly not with the wind in your face. But under the right conditions you should have an eagle chance. Maybe not much of one, but a chance nonetheless.
As for starting with 0 holes and placing them one by one, that's the way you need to do it for creating a replica of a real life course. If you are creating a fantasy course, i.e. not one based on a real course, letting it auto generate and then setting the widths of the fairways and rough to 0 and hazards to 0 might suffice. You could even create a pretty great course that way. But you have to draw your own rough, fairways, bunkers, etc.
The first time I saw an auto-generated course in the GNCD I thought, now that's a well laid out course that follows logical patterns and efficient usage of the land. I wasn't too enamored with the hazard placements, or the 600+ yard par 5's, but that's easily correctible. You can modify any hole with the provided tools. You can even pick up a hole and move and rotate it. You can place the flag wherever you want. Once on a test course I have since deleted, (just to see if it would work) I put the flag, and thereby the cup, on the native terrain off the green. Silly place to put a flag, but it let me.
I am creating a fantasy course myself right now, mainly as experience as I plan to try to recreate TPC Scottsdale Stadium Course. But I need a lot more practice before I even have a hope of pulling that off. And that one will be laid down hole by hole on desert terrain.
