Welcome to Winding Hollow Golf & Event Center in New Albany, OH, my first RCR created using chadgolf’s TGC Golf Tools. Two different versions of the course are available in-game, which I’ll explain later.
History
Winding Hollow had a long history in central Ohio. The club was opened in 1921, and was one of the first private clubs in the Columbus area to allow Jewish members. The golf course itself was built by Robert Trent Jones Sr. in 1948. However, that course isn’t the same one I’ve created in-game- in 1992, Winding Hollow relocated from Columbus to New Albany, OH and the old course was sold to the City of Columbus (now known as Champions Golf Course). This new location for Winding Hollow was designed by Arthur Hills, and the club remained private until an ownership change in 2007 opened it to the public. For 7 years, it was considered one of the top public courses in Ohio, but following the 2014 season it was closed and essentially abandoned by the new owners. Fun!
Regardless, it was always one of my favorite courses to play in the Columbus area back before I moved here, so I figured I’d bring it back from the dead in TGC. I know Arthur Hills isn’t the most popular architect, to say the least, but I personally find this to be a pretty good course regardless. In the future, I may recreate Champions Golf Course (aka the old Winding Hollow), but we’ll see what 2K21 brings us.
The Two Versions
I decided to publish 2 different versions of this course. “Winding Hollow” is an effort to make the most accurate recreation I could of the course, with 3 pin sets based on the actual scorecard, and smaller greens. “Winding Hollow (Tour)” takes some creative liberties to make it more TGC-friendly, like adding tee boxes, enlarging greens, tournament objects, and 4 custom pin sets for tour usage. It’s up to you which one you play, or maybe even check out both!
...or none. I’m not gonna force you to play. But I’d appreciate it as this RCR has been in the works for over a year!
