I'm extremely new to the game & designer but just for something to do i decided to play around with the Lidar tools and OSM on some Houston area courses.
Someone with the username Andrago94 had mapped the holes on OSM well over a year ago for the Cypress Creek course at Champions golf club in Houston Texas.
It's a beautiful & historic Private course opened in 1959 some events it's hosted include: (1967 Ryder Cup) - (1969 U.S. Open) - (1993 U.S. Amateur), & is scheduled to host the 2020 U.S. Women's Open in December.
I searched around & couldn't find an in Progress or completed upload anywhere so i assume it was abandoned.
Anyways i finished some more of the mapping in OSM on the Cypress Creek Course and got it in TGC19 with 2018 Lidar data.
I'm not skilled enough to likely ever make a finished product but will probably continue to tinker with it.
One challenging thing i noticed will be the Water hazard on the first hole which has a sloping brick/stone lining
the only real idea i had was to line the edges with a stone cartpath texture to get something that looks somewhat similar & can slope but not sure if its even possible to have a path touching the water as it disappears if i try to add water over it. If anyone has any tips/tricks on sculpting & smoothing out lidar ponds or any ideas on the stone/brick lining. I'm curious if it's possible to get something close to real life or if it will just need to be a compromise on that feature.
(not same angle)
I'm more than happy to send all the files over to a more skilled designer & would probably prefer that honestly so this awesome course gets the love it deserves.
If anyone wants the files Just let me know. If not i will just keep playing around with it & probably just end up adding most of the in play trees & roughed water hazards for personal play.
The Lidar data & OSM splines seem to really line up quite well its mostly just the water hazards & some minor things here & there that need to be sculpted more.
There seems to be a decent amount of reference imagery of the course between OSM, Google Earth, & Flyover tours on the Clubs website.
Let me know if i should've posted this in another area sorry I'm new to this community & game as a whole.
