At 8:08am yesterday morning, the opening tee shot was struck at Maverick Dunes. A bold inspiration of Perry Maxwell's finest work, Maverick Dunes takes the golfer on an enjoyable walk into, over and around a massive sand dune in the middle of the property. Large, undulating fairways will provide multiple lines of play off the tee and then ask for precise, thoughtful approach play to take advantage of the signature "Maxwell rolls" found in many of the green complexes.
The default green speed of 176 has been extensively tested to every pin location under every wind speed and direction using both pro and master clubs to provide an enjoyable challenge for golfers of most abilities. The default wind speed is calm so please consider turning it up to medium or higher. Low winds from any direction (especially N/NW) should present ample birdie opportunities. If you fancy a loop in the prevailing high/very high S winds that regularly sweep across the plains, try out pins 3 and 4 for a stern test of your course management and ball striking abilities. These conditions should provide a narrow margin between a great look at birdie or scraping it around to salvage a bogey.
Side note - While my course surround skills have ample room for improvement, you may notice a roughed in short course peaking through the perimeter trees and a few other nuggets hiding around the property. I am proud to report that no animals and one only golf cart were harmed in the building of Maverick Dunes and that the short course should be open for play sometime in the fall.
Par 3's (2, 4, 10 and 14)
The collection of par 3's at Maverick Dunes vary greatly in length (from as short as 113yds on the 10th to an uphill 245yd shot to the back of the 2nd), width, and direction of play. What they do have in common are some of my favorite green contours that can provide the perfect shot an opportunity for an ace while presenting a well earned two putt for a mediocre shot.

This group of par 4's provide a mix of demanding tee shots (5, 8, 11, 16, and 18), approach play precision (1, 3, 9, and 17) and even a drivable 12th that will yield as many eagles as double bogeys using nothing but well contoured, short grass.

Maverick Dunes has a triplet of par 5's (7, 13, and 15) that shouldn't punish you too much and provide three solid opportunities for an under par score when played properly. As you come off the 7th green, make sure you look to your right for a quick glimpse at the short course.

A part of the short course can be seen from beyond the 7th green. If nobody else is on the hole, stop by for a moment, peg up a ball and see if you can impress the local gallery with your ball striking prowess.

Well there you have it. After 5+ months of work, my first design is in the books. It is now time to head to the 19th hole for a few pints with good friends and start sketching some holes for my next course to come some time after 2k21 is released.
I hope you enjoy playing Maverick Dunes as much as I've enjoyed building it. If you finish your round by looking forward to your next loop under different conditions, then I've more than done my job. As always, any and all feedback is greatly appreciated.
