Construction is underway on what could be my final course before '21. This is just a small teaser from The Botany Club!
First 7 holes are laid down and all 18 mapped. The Botany Club plays upon the shores a large central lake, carved through mature pines and Azaleas.
Having done two very traditional British designs, I've been inspired by the likes of East Lake, Isleworth and if it's not to obvious, the course that must not be named for legal reasons! That being said there is a local beauty spot close to home in the UK called Virginia Water (borders Wentworth) with very similar terrain.
Let me know what you think so far! I think I may have bitten of more than I can chew having to plant each Azalea flower individually but it's got a cool look I haven't seen so far on this game!
Work continues at The Botany Club! The 8th-11th holes are now complete as well as the new Halfway House, perched behind the 9th green with views around the turn and of the lake the course plays around.
The 8th hole is a short par 3 with three deep green side bunkers which aren't always the issue. The green is divided by a ridge so finding the right section is the only way to make birdie.
The final hole of the front nine is a reachable dogleg left par 5 but water guards the tee shot as well as the approach. Taking on the corner will leave a shorter club in, but a less favourable angle in to a penal green complex.
Making the turn at the 10th is a 470 yard uphill hogs back par 4. Finding the correct side of the fairway leaves an easier approach as you can avoid the large mound hiding the right of the green.
The 11th is a more straightforward par 4 where a good drive offers a wedge or short iron to a plateau green. Nevertheless, a meandering stream works it's way around the green edge to catch a loose shot.
Still plenty of work to go and I'll keep you updated!
bubbadave: Well, that was a thoroughly unenjoyable 4th round in CC.

Demonondalinks: your tempo window for perfect is smaller each level you go up there for making it harder to obtain a perfect tempo consistently

sroel908: Nope, like you said...default is whatever the designer sets the green speeds to. That can be any number from 104 to 186.

meunier33: I thought default meant exactly between moderate and fast

sroel908: Exactly, 158 is the designer-set default speed for Pine Lake CC (Michigan).
