It's simple and a easy way to get approximate widths for surfaces; such as fairways ...
Beats a blank, since HB still hasn't provided an in game ruler tool (well they did, you just needed to be creative) ...

Good tip DDawg. I was using different buildings for measurements but they aren't that accurate.

I just eyeball it... I haven't ever used anything to "measure". Just play the hole and change it.

I just eyeball it... I haven't ever used anything to "measure". Just play the hole and change it. That's fine when you're not going for a design of a real course ... and you are trying to keep the fairway widths close to the Actual course ... then "Eyeball" doesn't work so well ... And when someone says that the fairway is "too narrow" or "too wide" ... this method gives you a better gauge than just "eyeball" ... and a better reference to support your reasoning.

Here's another way to get reference info for course design "if you're doing a real course" or "just looking for ideas" ...
Google Earth, and Google Maps w/measuring tape ...

Expanding upon the measuring tips ... an how you could use it to size up greens ... helpful while doing a actual course green, if you're lucky enough to tract down a hole location chart ... Like what the USGA puts out for there US Open courses ...
