Just let us make it to the fairway, otherwise I will disband my entry and become the lone judge and dock you good Oh yeah, no problem getting to the fairway. 2nd shots may not hit the green though. I tested last night in 14mph in my face...nope. 2nd shot didn't quite make it. Making courses long is great...but the way the wind knocks the ball down does make this freakin hard.

Greets,
Well here is my take and it's evident in my submission "Majestic Royale Golf Club" (have you tried it). Yeah I went there.
Sometimes with these longer courses in high winds golfers just have to accept that they will be playing for par. Just avoid any long shots over water or other very nefarious hazards (Rocks, Deep gorges etc.) that cannot be cleared no matter what. If it takes 2 shots in high winds to set up for a crossing then so be it.
You said you wanted it tough and long (no puns please),

What the hell, I will sign up. Totally out of my designer comfort zone but maybe that's a good thing.

I'm in. Can I enter a replication of a real life course or does it need to be something totally out of my warped mind? Also the "beauty" thing, that is soooo subjective from person to person. Hopefully this doesn't carry a ton of weight on the scorecard because it is a minor item imo. Of course it needs to look nice but how deep and realistic are the judges going to be with this? I just don't want to see a crappy playing course get it's kicks because it was beautiful. #SupermodelWithHIV. No denying that there is subjectivity to the voting process. We are all being asked to consider ALL of the voting criteria when evaluating each entry. I will give you my idea of how "beauty" factors in to voting. If there are 2 courses that are very similar on the difficulty, playability, risk/reward dimensions, the one that has more beauty will win. The interesting thing for me is that beauty often comes from a combination of those other factors with planting and landscaping. I've seen lots of courses that had good planting but did not have beauty because of obvious flaws in other areas. At the same time, too much planting can be horrific for frame rates, so there is an economy of detail that needs to be struck. I've rated a few courses in the past that I described as "beautiful in its simplicity". What that means is there was a lot of attention paid to factors other than planting. There will probably be a number of courses submitted that we will use on the tours but it is going to take a special course to be chosen for a major. It's simple as that. But we are only providing a guideline for entries. There is no substitute for experience in using the GNCD when it comes to designing your entry (something you obviously have, Nevada). I don't believe the people who will finish top 3 in this contest will be looking at our judging criteria and checking each one off as they go. If this was your first or even second course ever, you would be an extreme longshot to win simply because of lack of experience, NOT because of voting bias. There are, unfortunately, those who will claim otherwise. Appreciate the clarification on how it's going to go. I'm about ready to publish a course (not for this contest, it's a desert theme) that I chose to really get down on the routing but not adding a ton of planting. Instead, i went insane with the terrain, which fits well with the theme. I'll be interested in the feedback it gets once it is up. Pretty much a minimalist approach but I feel it works in the desert. We'll see. What I learn from this experiment will go into my contest course. I'm not too concerned about what place my course finishes more than I do about it's playability and challenge as a whole.

Since there is already one submission posted in the Completed section of the forums, and two that i know of in the WIP sections. I'd like to make a suggestion that all judges refrain from playing published courses or BETAs before the submission deadline. I feel that there possibly could be an advantage for designers who post there course earlier, with more plays by judges. Just a thought.
