Sweating on whether the four incomplete rounds above me last week will mean one or two red marks, I took to the first tee. All was well until an over aggressive approach saw me slide some way past and a dumb humph halted my progress. I got things going again and turned at -5. I had practiced the awkward 14th and watched my approach roll all the way back down to leave a pitch back up the huge slope. I chose to lay back a little and make sure I had enough club. I certainly had enough club. It sailed past the flag, past the second tier and came to rest at the back of the third tier. I even got my phone out to do the maths for the enormous downhill putt.
I tapped it but immediately called to the caddy to dig the Lob Wedge out as there was not a chance in hell of it staying on the dancefloor. I was informed that the putt I hit about 40ft had travelled 234ft. One of the officials said that he would check with the Guinness Book of World Records but I'm not hopeful. At least my practice was useful, a good pitch and good putt saw another humph bring me back to -7.
Two of the next three were chirped and I stood on the last at -9 with dreams of double figures. 60ft of elevation, virtually no wind, pin towards the back so go for the more lofted club. It all added up. It added up to the ball sailing 85ft past the flag. The putt was an Oscar, lacking legs, and rolled back to 60ft. As the Cutting Crew would have sung, if they were golfers, 'I just died in your jaws tonight' and an very unsatisfying 4" bogey putt saw me card a less than useful -8 for Round 1.

Paul it's not the same, he has backup! I know I do as well, but beating his scarlet and grey arse into submission...priceless.

1st round -5
Another bad start to the week especially after popping in an eagle putt on the first hole. I only managed to pick up another 2 birdies on the front 9 on the 5th and 8th holes which had me at -4 after 9. Another 2 birdie putts fell on the 12th and 13th but were followed by a bogey on the 14th as I struggled to negotiate the steep slope at the front of the green. The birdie on the 16th was rendered meaningless by a bogey on the 17th which was followed by a par on the severe uphill last hole.
As per usual I'll be waiting for those bounces to fall in my favour and the Brazilians to start dropping.
I know they will but I don't know when.

So it's a lockdown birthday and you live alone, what are you going to do? Fire up the PS4 and try to make amends for your poor performance in Round 1 was my choice. A little voice in the back of my head was telling me "just look at the conditions and have a practice round". My inner chimp started throwing dung around my brain and screaming "don't be so soft, just get going, like Frans always says, it will be just fine". I succumbed to the base emotional response and found myself on the first tee.
A perfect drive and an approach to 15ft. Three putts later I found myself saying to my chimp "have a banana and STFU". Two more pars and I was really beginning to regret my choice. All those promising weeks of practice petering out to a demo mark or two were getting into my head. The chimp suddenly took control again. "Stop feeling sorry for yourself, put on the big boy pants and get this done. Four birdies and a couple of near misses saw me turn in -4.
The birdie train got into top gear. Four little chirps and -8 on the 14th tee. Whatever club I need for that second shot never seems to be in may bag. Middle tier this time so I can't be as far wrong this time. I was correct but in virtually the same spot as last time. 45ft from the hole and the game says hit it 18ft. I'm not falling for that so I hit it 10ft. It rolls down onto the middle tier and keeps on trucking. It can't go another 234ft can it? Thankfully it bit like a police dog and clung onto the last few blades of the dancefloor. Bogey.
Two more birdies and a decent par on the last, down to ignoring the maths, putting a bucket on my head and using the Force. It still didn't feel good enough but it was much better than it could have been. Round 2 was -9.
p.s. If you haven't read 'The Chimp Paradox' I would recommend the first 80 or so pages as a very decent insight on human attitudes and responses.

Thanks Ben, good to be back. It's like i've never left! I could be joining you back in CC-A as well next week. I'm sitting on 3 red things and shot terribly in my first 2 rounds this week on KF. Will I get 1 or 2 red marks this week, the wait continues.

Léiwen Hunnegdachs64, léif Kopplabunzerten, dear interested reader,
Seeing other peoples' scores, it seems that it's just me, but I found this week's course rather hard. Or not suited to my game. Maybe both. In addition, I played it a little too quickly as I wanted to get my rounds done. Hence, I won't appear in the "robbed" category this week, as my score isn't low enough, unfortunately.
Sorry team, but I only managed to card rounds of -6, -8, -9, and -6 for a mere -29.
Allez Kopplabunz!

I always felt the chances were there but personally didn’t take them and ended up in the water on 2 shots where I felt on setting the shot up I’d be nowhere near the water but inexplicably that’s where it ended. The 14th bit my arse a few times. Played it right once in 4 rounds.
