If you don't have civ...for goodness sake get Civ for free! (I liked 5 better...but whatever)

Been waiting to pull the trigger but have a few questions about it...

I have it on PS4. I’d assume gameplay wise they should be the same.

Then online, if I want to play VS friends how long would a typical game last? I'd think we could save it at any point if we stop?

I don’t have the two expansion packs and the base game played fine for me. I’ve heard good things about the DLC and that they’re worth the money so I’ll assume if I played it with them or had played a Civ game more recent than 3 then I might feel less fulfilled with just the base experience. There is a new season pass that was added as well but it sounds like it mainly will be adding new nations and leaders to the game, so that’s your call if you care or not. Both the base game and the expansion have gone on sale a few times already on PS4, so I’d definitely wait for a sale before deciding and it seems inevitable that a complete edition will eventually be released but who knows how long that could take. Haven’t played vs so I can’t speak to that at all.

I still play Civ4 to this day after more than 15 years. The games since (Civ Rev, Civ5, and Civ6) are all underwhelming, unfortunately.

I usually keep the latest version of Civ installed, so I've had Civ 6 for a while now.
The Gathering storm DLC is entirely worth it. I think it includes Rise and Fall which also adds stuff. The DLCs that add new civs, are ok, but I only get them when they are on a good sale.
Rise and Fall adds in dark ages, and a loyalty system, and governors that do different things. It adds another thing you have to watch for, I lost a city because I couldn't keep it loyal, and had to send military in to take it back. LOL
Gathering storm is the one that adds natural disasters and the climate change crap, but its really fun when it gets going, as it is something even more to watch out for. In my current game, I have been racing the clock to build seawalls, to keep my oil wells intact, due to the polar ice cap melting and losing them to flooding. And a volcano near me is looking like it may erupt. pretty cool stuff. (in game)
I'm currently playing Sweden, and was going for a science victory when I started, but did not realize until I started messing with it, how much I could manipulate things with the world congress and the new diplomacy stuff. So now I'm very close to hitting a diplomatic victory before I can get the science one.
Oh and titaneddie I think you asked about how long multiplayer takes. I have tried several multiplayer games, and never been able to finish any of them due to other players getting bored and quitting. Had one where we did the hotseat thing, where you just log in when you can and take your turn. That actually lasted over a year or two, because two of the players would take almost a week to check to see if it was their turn. If you have good dedicated people that enjoy it, and would take a turn a day, it would be great. But most just get bored after a while. I have gone back to single player only and love it, rather than try to play parent to other players and tell them when its their turn. And I just don't have the time to play a whole game in one sitting.

Right on, thanks. That hotseat mode was what I was hoping for. Play chess this way with some friends and we like it.
