An update to this thread for 2K21. The regular version of the course was ported a while back, a tournament version is under construction. It may take a while since I'm doing a bit more detail than I did in 2019, mostly thanks to the game opening up the ability to put all plants in regardless of the biome. This will assist in re-creating the tropical vacation theme they go with every year for the Wyndham tournament, and I will be using blue canvass walls to make grandstands blue as they are in real life. Also, a grand addition in the water tower!

Thanks guys! Still some game limitations that didn't allow the course to reach it's full potential, but I'm happy with how it turned out, the new assets available in 2K21 were nice to have.

Hope it's alright to wake this thread back up, currently WIP to bring this course to 2K23. Still some areas I'm not 100% happy with but I honestly don't know if there is any fixing it, it might be down to the game limitation with how it does the rough. Example here on 17, this little strip of rough is all supposed to be thick heavy rough, but the game has it as the first cut due to the way the fairway splines come in. I can't find a way to put heavy rough there. Same deal with several of the greenside bunkers, there is heavy rough on the bunker faces there IRL I do have a beta available, so if you are so inclined I'd love to get some feedback, maybe there is something amiss that my tired eyes have missed. called SCCBeta1

Edit spline so it doesn’t have light rough as a secondary texture, you can change it to heavy rough also Hmm, I will have to mess with it. The spline I have there doesn't have a secondary surface when I go to edit. Part of the issue might be I built this using the Lidar tools and OpenStreetMap, I'm not sure. I appreciate the suggestion, I'm not too familiar yet with all the different edit tools so I'll just have to spend some time with it.

All my courses are LiDAR and every spline is editable so you can definitely do it. Hover over the edge of the fairway and it should say “fairway spline point” in the cursor, select edit fairway spline point > secondary surface > heavy rough / off If you can’t find it, happy to have a look for you, just send me a message and I’ll share my email with you so you can send over the file. Cheers!

Jumping across from the Refuge over here as well - but I'm live now play testing! This should also save as a video review for you as well.

Thanks again for all your input and time Brad, definitely very helpful. I dove into the designer again for a bit and have been making good progress, cleaning up the sculpting and tooling with the rough lines. An executive decision was made to eliminate the first cut of rough (cost/time saving measure, grounds crew is a bit shorthanded). But by doing that it solved about all of my problems with the rough and where it should be, including on the bunker faces. I'm very pleased with the progress I've made, things are looking up A tiny bit of smoothing is needed, but the rough is exactly where it needs to be now, matching IRL perfectly And 17 is looking mint now, IRL they grow the rough on that narrow hill higher than the rest and it suuuucks

Another development, I finally went and learned how to do proper runoff areas with fringe texture, I am very excited now to finish the rest of the greens with this to make it play more like real life, since they do actually shave down the green surrounds to less than fairway length. The backstop on 5 might actually work as intended after I implement this new texture on it Obviously the lighting was adjusted for this screenshot to better show the green/fringe grid

Since you had such valuable feedback on the first playthrough, I figured I'd run one more thing by you. I am considering re-adding the first cut of rough to the fairways by way of splines, but then of course there is the wavy rough line issue. Deal breaker for you as a course reviewer? I've tried to minimize it by making the spline super wide and having a lot of points, but seems like there is no mitigating it perfectly.

This happens when laid down heavy rough touches laid down light rough, you need to keep a small gap between them, been like this in every game. It’s a pain but I switch the theme to desert, delete the heavy rough and then spline it around the light rough, adjust it so it’s barely touching and then paint around the outside where required. It’s very time consuming so the other option is just no light rough. The only thing with adding the fringe technique is that on the small greens that don’t have run offs, the fringe will take up most of the playable green area. It’s something I’ve done before, did 5-6 greens then hit a small green and deleted it all!
