Check the thread that's locked at the top of the clubhose thread for the reasoning, but politics are off limits. Trust me it's better for everyone. The people interested in those discussions post here: tgct-politicos.proboards.com/

No need to apologize. Usually these things start out pretty civil, but then a few ruin it for everyone. It gets ugly. Feel free to post a link to a thread over there though.

Malaysia elected a PM in his 90s last election. I was there during voting week and it was crazy. They all got 2 days off work just to travel to vote.

I think the aftermath of of the pandemic will give Biden a slight boost but I'd still put money on Trump. Pains me to say it but I believe Trump to be in a much better frame of mind than Biden and Trumps foreign policy has been very mild compared to ALL recent presidents, Democrat or Republican. Who was the last president who DIDN'T send the country into war? Fair play to him on that front.

If i was American i'd be more concerned about the President peddling conspiracy theories about non existent scandals and voter fraud.
Clearly paving the way for refusing to accept the election result if he loses.
In the civilized world we call that authoritarianism, fascism, a coup, etc etc. Whereas over there i sense at least 25% of the population are willing to go along with it justg to own the libs

I'd agree he's been less interventionist, but he's bombed Syria twice, and increased presence in Afghanistan. He's also antagonised a lot of other countries in his dealings with them, which is also very risky. He used to tweet criticisms of Obama for intervening in Syria, said he'd never do it after becoming president and had wilted in less than a year. He also sent more troops into Afghanistan, saying they were being given looser engagement rules, and then removed them again about a year later. His foreign policy has been, just like all his "policies" (eg covid,) a mixture of scattergun approach, blame shifting, hypocrisy and lies.

Yeah, the bombing in Syria was more of a contained situation, they knew the outcomes for certain. The antagonisms are just antagonisms, nothing has ever really happened because of them and they've certainly not really heightened any threats of war, despite media claims. I honestly believe that if Hillary had won the last election the US would be halfway through a full scale war by now with either Iran, Syria or possibly Venezuela. Biden I believe would be exactly the same. Bizzare times when I'm favoring Trump over other potential candidates 😂. You know full that this isn't me praising or endorsing Trump, I think he's been an absolute bell end of a president but not quite the disaster Hillary would have been.

Obviously I know you're not a trump fan 😉 Agree with parts of both of your posts, disagree with others. There were two interventions in Syria, both quite spread apart, and the escalation and then de-escalation of stuff in Afghanistan was ridiculous. Using a country as a plaything. Also think you're underestimating the impact all of his ditherings and antagonising have had. Agree Clinton would've been more interventionist, but the thing with America usually, is that it's surgical, not so all over the place like with trump. Probably still would've been worse for the countries involved though. Overall as a president, Clinton would've been far better. Still bad! But trump is by far the most incompetent and divisive president ever, and it's not even close. Agree trump will probably win the next election.

Iraq, Afghanistan and Libya were not surgical in any way, in my opinion. Libya was completely decimated just like Iraq and now hosts open air slave markets...
Between Trump and Clinton its a swap shop matter. She would have been better domestically and he with the foreign policy. I'm happy he reached out to countries that no democrat ever would have (Russia & NK), this is my opinion is, dare I say it, sensible diplomatic behaviour. Yes he's also fired a few verbal shots at those countries and their leaders but on the whole it's been pretty cordial. I honestly believe Trump was/is a non interventionist but he's obviously had his arm twisted by his advisors on certain things.

I honestly believe Trump was/is a non interventionist but he's obviously had his arm twisted by his advisors on certain things. Fair point on the first comment. It's got messier and messier as time has gone on. I'll mostly concede that one. I mean, trump has done nothing really. He barely has opinions on stuff. It was Rand Paul who influenced the non intervention stuff. And then others told trump to do the same. America's relationship with Russia is an absolute mess. Speaking from an American perspective, trump has been an unmitigated disaster with that, massively weakening their position. The N Korea thing was bizarre, with multiple extra examples of trump's unpredictable flip-flopping. But I agree it was interesting that he did it. I don't think there were any "sensible diplomatic" reasons for those two. The Russia thing was an attempt to get help for a power play within America, and they ended up getting completely manipulated and played by Russia. The N Korea thing I think was maybe an attempt to get himself some recognition as a "statesman" due to his massive inferiority complex and jealousy of Obama getting the Nobel peace prize. But he ended threatening to bomb n Korea 😂

We'll have to agree to disagree on Russia, can't say I'm upset at the US reached out to Russia and then seemed to become a sort of equal, in geopolitical terms, I'm all for an end to US hegemony and its imperialist power. It now seems to have been brought down a notch by Russia and China, that is a result and a sort of equilibrium between the three which is something that has been missing since 1991. I can't begin to imagine relations between the US and Russia if Clinton was in office, absolutely frightening given her bigoted view on Russia.
