How much golf can you get into 30 acres of land? That's what PithyDoctorG asked when he posted Quarantine backyard design "contest" earlier this month. Turns out, quite a bit ... Mayday's backyard is exactly that, what my "backyard" would look like if I had 30 extra acres with a creek running through it, and enough time and disposable income to build and maintain it. Obviously, a full-sized, 18-hole course wasn't going to fit. But we got an 18-hole, executive par-62 out of the deal. And, being in my own back yard, let's throw out some of the rules. Criss-crossing holes? Why not! It's not like we're taking 40 tee times a day. Make a greenside that rings a (golden) bell? If I want to feel like I'm on the 12th at some course in Georgia, why not? (Can I have an Amen?). Do we have templates? You betcha. Couple of original holes? Sure, why not. At the end of the day, it's my course. I want it to be FUN, and hopefully those who play it will feel the same. The initial version has two pin sets per hole, four pins per green. The alternate version (Mayday's Backyard alt pin) in now published, flip flopping the hole locations (Hole 1 pins now hole 17, hole 2 pins now 15, and so on). Anywho, on to the routing and the pics: Enjoy!

Loved the environment and, actually, hole one was the standout for me. Some of the best planting I've seen in a while. Concept is great - personally, I'd have loved a par five or longer four in there to break it up and sacrifice the 18 holes but for the way you wanted to do it, I doubt you can do much better. Top work

This looks awesome. I’ve been wanting to try something like this for a while. +1 on both counts. The realism in the sweeping views off the tees was incredible! especially from along the property lines looking back towards the middle of the "back yard". I lol'd at the cornfield- that must've taken a few hours! and it's a perfect practice course to hone in your irons/ wedges, and practice those tough mid length putts. great job, loved this!

Just published the other two pin sets (search: Mayday's Backyard alt pin). Same pins on each green, just flip flopped which holes you're playing them on. For example, one 1/17 green, the hole 1 locations in the main version are now the hole 17 locations, and vice versa. Ditto 2/15, 3/12, 4/10, 5/14, 6/16, 7/13, 8/11, 9/18.

Really well done sir! You guys are pumping out some great backyard designs! I'm having a hard time keeping up with these and the CC Design Contest courses. However, I usually just play a bunch of courses after publishing one course before getting deep into the next, so trying to soak it up. Then, it will be back into the designer!
