I didn't realize there was a "standard practice" for marketing in the gaming industry, one in which developers do nothing and let streamers pimp their product. I've seen other games with open betas, closed betas, demos, etc. so who knew.
I think the ones who do the marketing the best (in my mind, that would be San Diego Studios in their MLB: The Show marketing) do a combined effort, putting all these factors together to get the full story out to customers. San Diego Studios does closed alphas/betas, in-depth developer streams on gameplay, game modes, etc. They also leverage streamers, YouTubers, and other "Sony Partners" to push info out there about the game. The biggest difference with PGA 2K21 and MLB: The Show is that San Diego Studios puts out a schedule of when info will be released, and it's done in a measured approach. They put detailed info out in February and March, right up to release of their game. They use the months before release to get the hype train moving for their product. So far, 2K hasn't given any kind of plan or schedule for the in-depth info release, until the streamers started to say that they'd have info on August 6 - just 2 weeks from release. And now they're having their content partners stepping on each other's toes by streaming all at the same time, all at once. And people will say that San Diego Studios is a "bigger" developer...I don't think that's the case. The MLB: The Show team isn't very big, from what I can tell. Yet they are still out there providing info, hosting multiple streams, and more. I feel 2K/HB Studios could stand to learn a few things from how others market their product when it comes to PGA 2K21. Nail. Head.

So hb's marketing strategy is to give out copies to some twitch streamers (mostly fanboys it appears) and let them do the work? lmao.
I see that CrazyCanuck1985 is doing two streams tomorrow, for a total of over 10 hours. I am glad that more info is finally coming out about the game, but I don't have the time in the day to devote to one streamer that's going to be live for almost half the day, let alone another 5-10 streams that will be going on at the same time. Why they didn't do this in a more measured approach over the last few months is beyond me. What I think would have been a better way to build anticipation, while providing us will all the info we'd need: give each streamer a section to cover (for example, CrazyCanuck1985 could cover the course designer, others cover gameplay changes, career mode, societies, etc.) Do one of those each week, starting in late June/early July. We'd have a much clearer picture of how the game will play, look, feel...instead, we got 2 real-life courses announced each day for two weeks (many of which we already knew) as well as the weak announcements of the unplayable pros that will be in career mode. What we are getting is everyone virtually vomiting info all at once, two weeks before the game is released. And we'll have to weed through hours and hours of the streams to get the info we want. Just seems it could have been done a lot better, IMO. Who gives a sh. It?? The streams will be archived.watch at your leisure. You act like this is life or death and you only have minutes to make a decision lol Entitled much?

So are they actually "live" streams or is it recorded gameplay being streamed?

I will be live with a stream on Thursday and will have videos going live throughout the day as well. I will answer any questions I am able to at that time. You can ask questions now though, I got a list running. Or you can wait until Thursday if you want to stop by. There may be some questions I can't answer but I will try my best to answer as many as I can and also stay active here with any questions you all have.

So it sounds like pre recorded video then with streamers kinda narrating.

I'm sorry (not sorry), but I have a job, family, and other things in my life I enjoy, and would rather not sit in front of my computer, watching a half-dozen other people play a video game for that long. I, like all the folks not on these forums (believe it or not, people who play this game exist outside of TGC Tours), are basing a potential PGA 2K21 purchase decision on the info that gets released tomorrow. This is thanks to the fact that 2K/HB haven't give us anything of substance in terms of info on gameplay, game modes, etc. up to this point. And I don't consider this being 'entitled'...I consider this simply asking for what other game developers and publishers provide to their paying customers. Is knowing what gameplay changes are in the new edition of the game too much to ask for? All I want is for the people who make this game to tell me what's in it. Simple as that.

They always could, they really are terrible at this. I'm glad they have 2K doing SOMETHING this time around.

I didn't pick up TGC 2019 until it was $15, so I missed the release of the game back in 2018. If this 2K21 marketing strategy is that much better than TGC 2019...yikes.

I don't want to get too deep into a comparison between MLB The Show and PGA2K. One is an established franchise with a large base replicating a major sport. The other is a new title standing on the shoulders of an indie franchise replicating a niche sport.
I was always going to get PGA2K21. These ads aren't targeting me, so it's no wonder they all miss the mark with me. I don't know what the effectiveness would be of having more streams and more info two months ago. It seems to me that getting the word out when a release is imminent makes more sense, but a release in August runs it right up against Madden.

Indeed, just to answer the question posed above, there will be multiple streams happening throughout the day on August 6th, beginning at 10am ET/7am PT.
Those of us who have the preview material have had great discussions, and we are not competing for your viewership, so please feel free to watch one guy, or bounce around throughout the day, as we'll all have our own style and purpose that you might enjoy.
*Unless you hate "fanboys", then just stay away, you won't hurt my feelings.

It seems to me that getting the word out when a release is imminent makes more sense, but a release in August runs it right up against Madden. I totally get the point about The Show being an established franchise, but it's been their marketing that's helped get them to that point. I remember when 2K and EA were both releasing baseball games as well, and The Show was chugging along, pretty much standing toe-to-toe with the big guys. EA dropped out, 2K's baseball game went way south, and San Diego Studios took advantage. The reasons they should have been marketing more aggressively for the last month or two includes one you touched on: Madden and other sports titles. PGA 2K21 is being released a week before Madden, a week after UFC 4, and two weeks before the Tony Hawk 1 and 2 remakes come out. Waiting until this week to get some solid info out there about PGA 2K21 means they are hoping not to get lost in the shuffle of other major sports game releases. I don't know how that's going to work out. Also, if they got info out earlier, they could have ridden the fact that the real-life PGA Tour was basically one of the only sports going on at the time. People were watching golf at higher rates, because it was all sports fans really had to watch during most of May, June, and July. They could have capitalized more on Bryson DeChambeau's emergence as a big-time bomber, as he's in the game. Things like that.

I wouldn't be sure the world won't be on FIRE IN 2021. Forget golf for awhile and find out who you can't criticize (Voltaire- see Loxism).
